Abstract:
The disclosed technology relates to a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and an ashless basic amine additive selected from a N-aralkyl α-carbonyl functional amine. The basic amine additives used in the lubricating oils of the disclosed technology impart basicity measured as total base number (TBN) without adding sulfated ash. Lubricating oils containing the basic amine additives of the disclosed technology simultaneously achieve seal compatibility, deposit, and corrosion control.
Abstract:
The disclosed technology relates to a lubricant composition for automotive or industrial gears, as well as axles and bearings, the lubricant composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a metal alkylthiophosphate compound, such as zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, as well as a method of obtaining extreme pressure performance in automotive or industrial gears, axles and bearings at lower sulfur content than is typical, by lubricating such automotive or industrial gears, axles and bearings with a lubricant composition containing a metal alkylthiophosphate compound, such as zinc dialkyldithiophosphate.
Abstract:
There is disclosed an antifoam component for a mechanical device which includes a fluorinated poly(acrylate) copolymer. The antifoam component has improved foam performance and thermal stability in finished fluids, such as driveline fluids.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and an ashless ketone compound with at least one of a hydroxy group and an ether linkage attached to the carbon atom adjacent to the carbonyl carbon of the ketone, especially α-hydroxyketone. The invention further relates to methods of lubricating an internal combustion engine by supplying the described lubricating composition to the internal combustion engine. The invention further relates to the use of the α-hydroxyketone compound as a friction modifier and an antiwear agent.
Abstract:
The disclosed technology relates to lubricants for driveline and industrial gears containing a mono-ester or a mixture of mono- and di-esters, as well as a method of lubricating driveline and industrial gears with such a lubricant.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and about 0.01 to about 5 percent by weight of a (thio)phosphoric acid salt ("phos-amine salt") of at least one hydrocarbyl amine. The hydrocarbyl amine may be a hindered hydrocarbyl amine, an aromatic hydrocarbyl amine, or a combination thereof.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and a (thio)phosphoric acid salt of an N-hydrocarbyl-substituted gamma- (γ-) or delta- (δ-) amino(thio)ester. The invention further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricant composition.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method of lubricating a mechanical device by supplying a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a compound having 2 to 20 hydroxy-carboxylic acid residues. The invention further relates to the use of the compound in a driveline device to provide at least one of antiwear performance, friction modification (particularly for enhancing fuel economy).
Abstract:
A process is provided for preparing a salt of a hydroxy-substituted di- ester of phosphoric acid, comprising: (a) reacting a phosphating agent with a monohydric alcohol and with an alkylene polyol, wherein the mole ratio of monohydric alcohol : alkylene polyol is about 0.2:0.8 to about 0.8:0.2 and wherein an excess of the phosphating agent is employed such that the product mixture formed thereby contains phosphorus acid functionality; and (b) reacting the product mixture of step (a) with an amine. The product is useful as an antiwear agent.
Abstract:
The disclosed invention relates to a composition comprising a grafted polymer. The polymer backbone comprises an olefin block and a vinyl aromatic block. The polymer backbone is grafted with a pendant carbonyl containing group, the grafting being conducted in oil in the presence of an initiator. The carbonyl containing-group is optionally substituted to provide ester, imide and/or amide functionality. The grafted polymer is useful as a dispersant viscosity modifier in lubricating compositions such as engine oils.
