Abstract:
Alkenes and/or alkadienes are oxidized with molecular oxygen in the presence of an antimony catalyst to produce oxole compounds, such as furan, without substantial conversion of the oxole compounds to undesirable products. The catalyst preferably has the formula
A a D b Sbc Pd O x
wherein A is one or more of the following elements:
Fe, Co, Ni, U, Sn, Mn, La, and rare earth elements; and D is one or more of the following elements:
Ag, Cu, Mo, V, W, Bi, Te, As, Se, Cr, Zr, Pb, Nb, Ti, Zn, Cd, alkaline earth elements and alkali metal elements; and
wherein a is 0 - 10;
bisO-10; c is 1-10; d is 0-20; and x is the number of oxygens required to satisfy the valence requirements of the other elements present.
In a particular embodiment butadiene is converted to furan by contacting it with air in the presence of a catalyst comprising an oxide complex of antimony and phosphorous.
Abstract:
The problem exists of finding a simple, economic and straightforward process for the production of indene monomer. This problem is solved by making indene monomer and substituted indene monomers by a dehydrogenation process in which an indene precursor more saturated than indene is contacted with an oxygen donor with a phosphate catalyst An oxygen donor is O 2 . The process is carried out a temperature above 100°C. The phosphate catalyst is represented by the formula MaPxOy in which M is one or more elements selected from Mg, Sr, Ca, Ba, La, Ce, other rare earths, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sn, Pb, Bi, Te, B, Al, Rh, Sb, As, Ge, U, Th and Ru. In a representative Example a mixture of indane, approximately five parts of air and three parts of nitrogen for each part of indane vapour are fed to a reactor containing.a phosphate catalyst and maintained at a temperature of 550°C.
