Abstract:
A process for the preparation of a fluid bed oxidation catalyst containing the mixed oxides of vanadium and phosphorus, comprising: (a) preparing a catalyst precursor containing a vanadium phosphorus mixed oxide; (b) comminuting the catalyst precursor; (c) introducing the catalyst precursor into water prior or subsequent to comminution thereof to form an aqueous slurry; and (d) spray drying said slurry to form microspheroidal catalyst particles is provided, as well as the use of such catalyst in the oxidation 4-carbon atom hydrocarbons, in particular n-butane to produce maleic anhydride. The catalysts prepared from catalyst precursors in organic medium retain their high activity from the above method is used for their preparation.
