    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for monitoring and controlling at least one of the plurality of quantifiable heat affected zones (HAZ) characteristics in a weld of metal pieces.
    SOLUTION: The method for monitoring and controlling at least one of the plurality of quantifiable HAZ characteristics in a weld of metal pieces comprises a step of determining a predictive HAZ characteristic value on the basis of the condition of welding process factors for weld, wherein the welding process factors include sizes, shapes and qualities of the metal pieces and the operating condition of a welding apparatus, a step of determining the optimum HAZ characteristic value for a weld to be conducted on metal pieces, and a step including at least one of the steps (a) and (b), wherein the step (a) indicates the quantity relating to the predictive HAZ characteristic value and to the optimum HAZ characteristic value and the step (b) controls a control component for controlling at least one of the operating conditions of the welding apparatus and corrects the predictive HAZ characteristic value in relation to the optimum HAZ characteristic value.
