    Abstract: Photosensitive plates have a surface comprising a soluble synthetic linear polyamide mixed with a minor amount of a photopolymerizable unsaturated compound of the stuucture: where #j is a or group, X is a straight or branched alkylene group having from 1-10 carbon atoms, and more than one when #j is: and having from 1-6 carbon atoms in a straight chain connecting the nitrogen atoms of the amido groups, the remaining carbon atoms, if any, being present as alkyl radicals attached to the said chain, and R, R1 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups having from 1-5 carbon atoms. The photopolymerization therewith is effected imagewise and is followed by washing away unexposed soluble polyamide, to result in a printing plate. The soluble polyamides may be those described in Specification 862,276 and about thirty-five of the unsaturated compounds are listed. Photoinitiators and polymerization inhibitors, of which also many are listed, may be included in the plates. In Example 1 a hot alcohol solution of hexamethylene diammonium adipate, hexamethylene diammonium sebacate and E-caprolactam interpolymer. N, N1-hexamethylenebismethacrylamide as photopolymerizable unsaturated compound, benzophenone as photoinitiator and methylene blue as inhibitor is cast into a sheet, cooled, dried, chopped up and moulded into a plate which is so exposed to a carbon arc and developed in a warm methyl alcohol solution of calcium chloride to result in a relief plate. Other examples mostly specify the same polyamide but include the use of N, N1-hexamethylenebisacrylamide, 1, 1, 4, 4-tetramethyltetramethylene 1-4-bisacrylamide, 5-acrylamino-N-allylcaproamide, acrylamino-N-allylacetamide and 2- acrylylamino-N, N1- diallylglutaramide as photopolymerizable compounds; p-benzoylbenzoic acid as initiator and hydroquinone as inhibitor.
