PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium, excellent in stiffness and a traveling durability, reducing a drop out as low as possible, and having a low optical transmissivity. SOLUTION: A plate-like composite nonmagnetic particle powder, having an average plate diameter of 0.1-5.0 μm and an average thickness of 0.001-0.1 μm, and a plate ratio of 5-100, comprises a plate-like hematite particle powder, having a surface coated with an organosilane compound or a polysiloxane, which are generated from an alkoxysilane, and also having a coated film with an organic pigment adhered thereto. The plate-like composite nonmagnetic particle powder for the back coat layer of the magnetic recording medium is such one that the amount of an organic pigment adhered to the coated film is 1-100 pts.wt., based on the plate-like hematite particle powder of 100 pts.wt. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a plate-like complex magnetoplumbite type ferrite particle powder for magnetic cards, excellent in dispersability and having a high resin adsorbing strength, and also to provide a magnetic card which is excellent in durability, a surface smoothness, and an electromagnetic transducing characteristic. SOLUTION: The plate-like composite magnetoplumbite type ferrite particle powder, having an average particle diameter of 0.21-2.0 μm, comprises a plate- like magnetoplumbite type ferrite particle powder, having a surface coated with an organosilane compound or a polysiloxane, which are generated from an alkoxysilane, and also having a coated film with an organic pigment adhered thereto. The amount of the organic pigment adhered to the coated film is 1-100 pts. wt., based on the plate-like magnetoplumbite type ferrite particle powder of 100 pts.wt.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent durability, good electromagnetic conversion characteristics, a lower light transmissivity and a lower surface electric resistance value, since the reduction of the electromagnetic conversion characteristics can be suppressed even if the volume of a filler material required for enhancing durability is added. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium consisting of a non-magnetic substrate, a non-magnetic base layer including a non-magnetic powder and a bonding agent resin and formed on the non-magnetic substrate and a magnetic recording layer including magnetic particle powder, the filler material and a bonding agent resin and formed on the non-magnetic base layer is characterized in so that hematite particle powder has a coating layer consisting of an organo-silane compound or polysiloxane formed from alkoxysilane on the particle surface thereof and 1-60 pts.wt. carbon black to 100 pts.wt. hematite particle powder is added to the coating layer to form a black composite hematite particle powder having 0.08-1.0 μm average particle size and the black composite hematite particle powder is used as the filler material.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acicular black composite magnetic particle powder which enables the production of a magnetic recording medium having low light- transmissivity even when the amount of a carbon black fine particle powder added to a magnetic recording layer is adjusted small as possible, a low surface electric resistance value and also a flat and smooth surface. SOLUTION: In this acicular magnetic particle powder, the surface of each of the particles is coated with a polysiloxane and also, fine-powdery carbon black is stuck to at least a part of the resulting polysiloxane coating in an amount sufficient to provide a 0.5 to 10 pts.wt. ratio of the carbon black to 100 pts.wt. of the acicular magnetic particle powder and further, the acicular particles have a 0.051-0.72 μm average major axis size.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain magnetic granular powder through which magnetic recording medium can be realized, where the magnetic recording medium is small in light transmittance, even if carbon black added to a magnetic recording layer is reduced to an irreducible minimum amount, low in surface electric resistance, and high in surface smoothness. SOLUTION: Needle magnetic granular powder is coated with organosilane compound, made of alcoxysilane for the formation of this magnetic granular powder, and carbon black fine granular powder 0.002 to 0.05 μm in average grain diameter is attached to organosilane compound coating for the formation of needle black composite magnetic granular powder 0.051 to 0.72 μm in average major axis, wherein 0.5 to 10 pts.wt. of carbon black fine granular powder is attached with respect to 100 pts.wt. of needle magnetic granular powder.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide magnetic iron oxide particulate powder for a magnetic toner which does not drop out from toner particles, ensures good fluidity as a toner and hardly inhibits charging of the toner because of a small area of a magnetic material surface exposed on the toner surface to improve the charging performance of the toner, thereby giving a toner having high image density even in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment and also having high image density-maintaining property. SOLUTION: The magnetic iron oxide particulate powder has a spherical particle shape as a basic shape and has angular protrusions on a particle surface. A method for producing such magnetite particulate powder includes a two-step reaction comprising a reaction of an aqueous ferrous salt solution with an aqueous alkali hydroxide solution to form magnetite seed crystal particles and a growth reaction of the seed crystal particles, wherein pH in the first-step reaction is adjusted to a range of 7.0-8.5, and in the second-step reaction, a ferrous salt solution is added in an amount of 1.0-30.0 at.% relative to the amount of Fe in the first-step reaction. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide black magnetic iron oxide particles having a polyhedral shape comprising magnetic particles having a high blackness, and a magnetic toner having a high blackness when the magnetic toner is produced by using the black magnetic iron oxide particles of the present invention. SOLUTION: The black magnetic iron oxide particles have a polyhedral shape, wherein a percentage of dissolution of iron element based on a total amount of iron element contained in the black magnetic iron oxide particles is 50%, a percentage of dissolution of sulfur element based on a total amount of sulfur element contained in the black magnetic iron oxide particles is less than 40%, and the content of sulfur is 0.02-0.50% by weight.
