Abstract: Iron particles for purifying soil or ground water comprise a mixed phase of ±-Fe phase and Fe 3 O 4 phase and have a BET specific surface area of 5 to 60 m 2 /g, an Fe content of not less than 75% by weight based on the weight of the iron particles and a sulfur content of not less than 1,000 ppm. The iron particles are capable of decomposing or insolubilizing harmful substances such as organohalogen compounds and/or heavy metals, cyanogen, etc. contained in the soil or ground water in an efficient, continuous and economical manner.

Abstract: Disclosed is a magnetic-particle-containing aqueous dispersion which has an average primary particle diameter of 5 to 15 nm, an average secondary particle diameter of 10 to 60 nm, and has a zeta potential of -20 mV or less at a pH falling within the range from pH6 to 8, wherein the surfaces of the magnetic powder are coated with a polymer having a carboxyl group. The magnetic-particle-containing aqueous dispersion can be produced by heating an aqueous solution having, dissolved therein, a polymer having a carboxyl group to a temperature falling within the range from 90 to 100°C in a nitrogen atmosphere, adding a solution containing a bivalent iron salt and a trivalent iron salt and an alkaline solution to the heated aqueous solution, causing the resulting mixture to react at that temperature, adding ethanol to the reaction solution to cause precipitation, removing a supernatant from the ethanol-precipitated solution, dissolving the resulting solution in water, and subjecting the resulting solution to dialysis. The magnetic-particle-containing aqueous dispersion is useful for the production of a magnetic-particle-containing medicinal agent for diagnostic purposes, therapeutic purposes or the like which can exhibit a homogeneous function with high reproducibility.

Abstract: Porous composite particles of the present invention comprises 80 to 98% by weight of a filling material and 2 to 20% by weight of carbon, and having an average pore diameter of not more than 5 nm when measured with respect to pores existing in both the surface and inside portions thereof, an average particle size of 1 to 1,000 .mu.m and a specific surface area of 45 to 200 m2/g. Such porous composite particles individually contain the filling material in as large an amount as possible. Therefore, the porous composite particles of the present invention have not only a high catalytic but also a high adsorption ability, thereby exhibiting an excellent catalytic activity.

Abstract: Un proceso para producir partículas finas de óxido de hierro magnético que tienen un diámetro medio de partícula primaria de 5 a 15 nm y un diámetro medio de partícula secundaria de 10 a 60 nm, estando un a superficie de las respectivas partículas finas de óxido de hierro magnético revestidas con un polímero que contiene un grupo carboxilo, proceso que comprende las etapas de: calentar una solución acuosa en la que se disuelve el polímero que contiene un grupo carboxilo a una temperatura de 90 a 100 °C en una atmósfera de nitrógeno; añadir una solución de una sal ferrosa (II) y una sal férrica (III) y una solución alcalina a la solución acuosa para que reaccionen entre sí a la misma temperatura; enfriar la solución resultante a temperatura ambiente y luego añadir etanol a la solución resultante para obtener un precipitado; eliminar un líquido sobrenadante de la solución y luego dispersar el precipitado en agua y someter la dispersión resultante a diálisis para obtener una dispersión acuosa que comprende las partículas finas de óxido de hierro magnético cuya superficie está revestida con el polímero que contiene un grupo carboxilo; y liofilizar la dispersión acuosa para obtener partículas finas de óxido de hierro magnético
