    Abstract: A polymerization catalyst for alpha-olefins comprises (1) an organoaluminium dihalide, or an organoaluminium sesquihalide, (2) a halide of a transition metal of Group IVa to VIa of the Periodic Table and (3) at least one compound selected from aminosilanes, silazanes, aminosulphides, aminosulphoxides, and aminosulphones. The alpha-olefin may be ethylene, propylene, butene-1, pentene-1, decene-1, 3-methylbutene-1, 4-methyl-pentene-1, 4-methyl-hexene-1, allyl benzene, styrene, o-methyl-styrene, or vinyl cyclohexane, and mixtures. The alpha-olefines may be copolymerized with butadiene, isoprene, vinyl cyclohexene, or cyclohexadiene. The polymerization may be effected by known "low-pressure" techniques, and in the presence, if desired, of molecular weight regulators such as hydrogen, alkyl or halogen halides, or halides or alkyls of Zn, Cd, or Hg. The Specification contains a long list of catalyst components. Catalysts exemplified are TiCl3+C2H5AlCl2+tetrakis(dimethylamino silane, TiCl3+phenyl-aluminium dichloride+ tetrakis (dimethylamino) silane, TiCl3+ethyl-aluminium dibromide + tetrakis (dimethylamino) silane, TiCl3+ethylaluminium sesquichloride+tetrakis (dimethylamino) silane, TiCl3+C2H5AlCl2+ [(CH3)3Si]2NH, or [(CH3)3Si]NCH3 or (CH3)3SiNHC6H5, or [(CH3)2SiNH]3, VCl3+ethylaluminium dichloride + hexamethydisilazane, TiCl3 + C2H5AlCl2 + trimethylanilinosilane, TiCl3 or VCl3+ethylaluminium sesquichloride + trimethylpiperidinosilane, TiCl3+ethylaluminium sesquichloride + [(CH3)2N]2S, or [(CH2)3N]SO, or [(CH3)2N]SO2, and TiCl3+ethylaluminium sesquibromide+dipiperidino-sulphone. The above TiCl3 component is made by reducing TiCl3 with Al, and comminuting the product.
