Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production apparatus and method for separation membrane elements with which a separation membrane can be folded double in a prescribed state without any wrinkle before a step of forming a folding line of the double-folded membrane and positioning of the folding line can precisely be performed at a prescribed position and occurrence of scratching of the membrane at the time of folding can be avoided. SOLUTION: The production of separation membrane element is carried out using the separation membrane element production apparatus. The apparatus is provided with a membrane folding means of holding one end of a sheet of a separation membrane and folding the separation membrane double so as to sandwich a flow channel member on a stand, a folding line-forming means for forming the folding line in the folding back end of the separation membrane by a press. The folding line-forming means comprises a folding line guide positioned above the separation membrane, which is folded back while being kept at a prescribed gap from the stand, and moved from the point toward the folded back edge part and a press means for forming the folding line in the separation membrane by pressing the folded back edge at the folded back position after the movement of the folding line guide.
