Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a reverse osmotic membrane excellent in durability, strength, and solvent resistance by superposing a barrier film layer of a crosslinked polymer polymerized by an acid catalyst and a protective film layer of a composite membrane consisting of a partially saponified product on a porous substrate. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of the anisotropic porous substrate of polysulfone, polyvinyl chloride, etc., a thickness of approx. 0.01-0.1mu of the barrier film layer of a bridged polymer composed primarily of a compound with an acid-polymerizable isocyanurate main chain and/or furfuryl alcohol is formed, and then on the barrier film layer, a protective layer with an optical interference stripe, having high water insolubility and high solvent resistance, composed of the partially saponified products of polyvinyl alcohol and/or polyvinyl acetate is formed. The semipermeable composite membrane thus obtained has high resistance to mechanical damage, highly stable separation capacity for a long period of time, and high solvent resistance.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the membrane of considerably less fluctuations of performance industrially advantageously by making drying and heat treating temperatures specific. CONSTITUTION:The solution containing a film-formable in-situ polymerization type reaction component of monomer, oligomer or the product of initial reaction or the like which is a nonsolvent for a porous polysulfone substrate membrane is coated on the said substrate membrane. After this is first dried at a temperature of 140 deg.C or less, it is heat-treated at a temperature higher by about 10 deg.C or more than this drying temperature. This enables the production of the composite membrane of constant performance and quality with good reproducibility. Although the reasons for this are not sufficiently evident, it is presumed that the removal of the moisture contained in the substrate membrane and the solvent of the coating liquid takes place preferentially in the drying process, that the reaction components in the coating liquid having infiltered in the pores of the substrate membrane surface layer partly polymerize and the polymer thus formed is hard to receive thermal deformation and that this suppresses the shrinkage of the substrate membrane.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the performance of a semipermeable membrane while lengthening life by means of simple treating operation by a method wherein a vinyl group polymer with groups, which are formed by bonding the main chains of the vinyl group polymer and organic groups with terminal carboxyl groups in ether or ester shapes, and acetoxy groups as side chains is used as a membrane treating agent. CONSTITUTION:A single polymer or polymers obtained from a monomer containing polymerizing vinyl groups such as a vinyl group polymer, which is derived from polyvinyl acetate, a vinyl chloride copolymer, etc. and to whose side chains groups represented by a formula which acetoxy groups and organic groups with the main chains of the vinyl group polymer and terminal carboxyl groups are bonded by ether linkages on ester linkages are introduced, are employed as a semipermeable membrane, particularly, a membrane treating agent of an inverse penetrating membrane. The treating agent improves the performance of th membrane by means of simple treating operation, recovers the lowering of the performance of the membrane after using, and remarkably increases the life of the membrane.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the support sheet of a reverse osmosis liquid separation membrance excellent in reinforcing effect, by a method wherein a membrane forming polymer solution is coated on one surface of a base fabric and a coagulating liquid is contacted with the coated surface and thereafter contacted with the uncoated surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:A base fabric 1 such as knitted fabric or a non-woven fabric comprising a polyamide or a polyester fiber is passed between a knife edge 2 and the support thereof and introduced into a coagulating liquid 5 through a space 9 to be taken up by a rotary drum 6. During this time, a solution 4 containing a polymer such as polysulfone or polysulfonamide is coated on the base fabric at the nip of the knife edge 2 and the support thereof and the speed of the base fabric is regulated so as to impregnate the base fabric 1 with the solution 4 during a time when the base fabric 1 is passed through the space 9. In the next stage, the base fabric 1 is conveyed through the coagulating liquid 5 so as to contact the one surface thereof with a smooth flat plate 7 in said coagulating liquid 5 to selectively coagulate from the coated surface side liquid 5 and support sheet of a reverse osmosis liquid separation membrane consisting of a microporous polymer membrane of which theaverage pore size is 50Angstrom -50mu and the void ratio is 50-90% and a support sheet can be prepared.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering of the separating capacity of the composite semipermeable membrane by adding a sulfite, etc., to the liqiud to be treated and performing its separating treatment within 5 minutes in the separation of inclusions from the liquid by a reverse osmosis method using the specific semipermeable composite membrane. CONSTITUTION:By using the composite membrane as a barrier layer, consisting of a thin membrane formed by coating a solution containing furfuryl alcohol, a multivalent organic acid reactive to furfuryl alcohol, a polyhydric alcohol, and an acid catalyst, e.g., sulfuric acid, on a porous supporting membrane consisting of a homopolymer or a blended polymer, followed by cross-linking polymerization, industrial water, sea water, etc., is treated to separate valuables present from the water. In this case, 5-100ppm of a sulfite, a bisulfite, or sulfurous acid gas is added to the liquid to be treated and the liquid is treated by the reverse osmosis method within 5min. Because active oxygen derived from dissolved oxygen in the liquid during the treatment is soon inactivated by a sulfite, etc., the oxidation of the composite membrane by the active oxygen can be prevented and thereby its own separating capability can be protected from deterioration. Thus, the durability of the composite membrane can be raised.
