Abstract:
An aromatic polyamide film, which is a laminated film comprising at least two layers characterized in that at least one outermost layer (A) of the film is one made from a mixture comprising an aromatic polyamide and one or more other polymers, has a content of the other polymers of 0.1 to 10 wt.%, and satisfies the relationships: 0.01t/d0.5, 0.05s/L1 (wherein d represents the thickness (.mu.m) of the layer (A); t represents the diameter (.mu.m) of the equivalent circle of the other polymers; and L and s represent the major and minor axes (.mu.m) thereof, respectively). The film is free from creasing and telescoping in the wind-up step and is excellent in surface wear resistance, thus being particularly useful as a high-productivity base film for magnetic recording media.

The present invention is an aromatic polyamide film, which is a laminated film consisting of at least two layers, comprising an aromatic polyamide and 0.1 wt% to 10 wt% of at least one or more different polymers, being contained at least in the outermost layer (layer A) of the film, subject to the condition that the following formulae are satisfied where d is the thickness of the layer A ( mu m); t, the circle equivalent diameter of the isles of the different polymer ( mu m); L, the major axis of the isles ( mu m); and s, the minor axis of the isles ( mu m). The aromatic polyamide film of the present invention is especially useful as a base film of a magnetic recording medium with high productivity since it is free from the wrinkling and weaving caused at the time of film winding and excellent in abrasion resistance on the film surface.

Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject film having a surface roughness capable of being adjusted according to the purpose by heating the film at the time of processing in the film comprising an organic polymer. SOLUTION: A solution dissolving an organic polymer is formed into a film by a film-producing method by using the solution. The objective roughness- changeable film is obtained by regulating the value of Ra2/Ra1 (Ra1 is the average roughness of the film before the heat treatment; Ra2 is the average roughness after the heat treatment) so as to be =7 GPa Young's modulus at least in one direction. The organic polymer is preferably an aromatic polyamide containing >=50 mol%; unit of NH-Ar1-NHCO- Ar2-CO and/or NH-Ar3-CO (Ar1 to Ar3 are each phenylene or the like). When the organic polymer is the aromatic polyamide, the heat treatment is preferably carried out at 150-350 deg.C.
