    Abstract: An aromatic polyamide film which has a thermal shrinkage in the transverse direction of 0.2 to 8 % as measured at 220 ~C under a load of 80 kg/cm2 and has a ten-point average surface roughness, Rz, of 10 to 200 nm on its side opposite to the side where a magnetic layer is to be formed; and a magnetic recording medium comprising this film and a magnetic layer formed on one side thereof. Using the film having a high-temperature thermal shrinkage and a surface property respectively within the above ranges can provide a magnetic recording medium which is reduced in curling and has excellent surface flatness.

The medium is favorable to computer data recording thereon.
