Abstract:
A biaxially-oriented polyester film includes at least two layers and at least one outermost layer is composed of a polyester having a rigid amorphous content of about 10 to 55%. The biaxially-oriented polyester film has a longitudinal Young's Modulus of at least about 4.5 GPa. It can be obtained by stretching an unoriented film in the longitudinal direction at a draw ratio of 3 to 8 in three stages at about 70 to 160 DEG C, then in a transverse direction at a draw ratio of about 3 to 8 and at about 80 to 150 DEG C and then heat-treating and cooling the heat-treated film to ordinary temperature in three or more stages at 180 to 50 DEG C.
Abstract:
A biaxially oriented polyester film having at least one film layer mainly formed from polypropylene terephthalate and a heat shrinkage at 80 ~C in 30 minutes of 0.8 % or below. It is excellent in abrasion resistance and particularly useful as a magnetic recording medium.
Abstract:
According to the present invention, a biaxially oriented polyester film is provided which comprises at least one film layer composed predominantly of polypropylene terephthalate and has a heat shrinkage of 0.8% or below after standing at 80 DEG C for 30 minutes. This film is excellent in wear resistance and hence useful particularly for magnetic recording media.

A BIAXIALLY-ORIENTED POLYESTER FILM INCLUDES AT LEAST TWO LAYERS AND AT LEAST ONE OUTERMOST LAYER IS COMPOSED OF A POLYESTER HAVING A RIGID AMORPHOUS CONTENT OF ABOUT 10 TO 55THE BIAXIALLY-ORIENTED POLYESTER FILM HAS A LONGITUDINAL YOUNG''S MODULUS OF AT LEAST ABOUT 4.5 GPA. THE BIAXIALLY-ORIENTED POLYESTER FILM IS SUITABLE FOR HIGH-DENSITY MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIA, SUCH AS DIGITAL VIDEO TAPES AND HIGH-DENSITY DATA RECORDING TAPES.

Abstract:
A polyester film which is useful especially as a base film for magnetic recording media such as a cassette magnetic tape for the digital recording system. The film is produced by irradiating with ultraviolet a surface of a film which is in an unstretched stage or is being stretched to thereby form fine projections on the surface. In the film surface, the ratio of the ten-point average surface roughness Rz to the center-line average surface roughness Ra, Rz/Ra, is lower than 20. The film has a specific value of the ratio of the carboxyl group concentration in a surface part to that in an inner part, and further has the fine projections in a specific number.
