    Abstract: PURPOSE:A thermoplastic polyamide-imide copolymer having good heat stability and fluidity at 300-400 deg.C and being injection-moldable into moldings having desirable properties, comprising four specified structural units in a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer consisting of structural unit (A) represented by formulaI, wherein Z is a trifunctional aromatic group, two of the three functional groups are bonded to the adjacent carbon atoms, structural unit (B) represented by formula II, structural unit (C) represented by formula III wherein R is H or methyl, and/or formula IV, wherein X is -SO2-, -S- or -O-, and structural unit (D) represented by formula V, wherein Y is a group of VI-X, wherein said structural units are present in such amounts that 1mol of (C+D) is present per mol of (A+B), A/B is 4-70mol%/96-30mol% and C/D is 40-98mol%/60- 2mol%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer which has good fluidity and heat resistance particularly at 300-400 deg.C and can be injection-molded, by reacting a mixt. consisting of specified two kinds of arom. diamines with an arom. tricarboxylic acid (or a derivative). CONSTITUTION:A mixt. consisting of 30-96mol% arom. diamine (i) of formula I and 70-4mol% arom. diamine (ii) of formula II (wherein R1 is 1-4C alkyl; R2 is 1-4C alkyl, halogen, nitro; X is SO2, CO or a group of formula III, (a) is 0,1; (b) is 0, 1-4; (c) is 1-25), is reacted with an arom. tricarboxylic acid (or a derivative) (in which two carboxyl groups are bonded to two adjacent carbon atoms to each other) (e.g. trimellitic acid or anhydride thereof) in a polar org. solvent (e.g. N-methylpyrrolidone) in the presence of a dehydrating catalyst (e.g. triphenyl phosphite) at 160-350 deg.C to obtain the titled polyamide-imide copolymer. EFFECT:The physical properties of molded articles are well-balanced. USE:Molded articles, films, fibers, laminates and paints.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title polymer having improved thermal stability and high fluidity at high temperatures, polymerizable in a high concentration, and injection- moldable, by reacting an aromatic tricarboxylic acid (or derivative) with a specific aromatic diamine mixture. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic tricarboxylic acid (or derivative), e.g. trimellitic acid anhydride, having two carboxyl groups bonded to the adjacent carbon atoms, is reacted with (B) a mixture of (B1) 5-95mol% of an aromatic diamine of formula I: (a is 0 or 1; b is an integer 1-4; R1 is 1-4C alkyl group; R2 is 1-4C alkyl, halogen, or nitro group) and (B2) 95-5mol% of an aromatic diamine of formula II: (C is an integer 1-25; X is sulfonyl, carbonyl, or isopropylidene group) in the presence of a phosphorus compound, e.g. phosphoric acid, in a polar organic solvent, e.g. N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, under heating.

    PRODUCTION OF HIGH PURITY TRICOBALT TETROXIDE

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain high purity tricobalt tetroxide with high productivity by reacting an aq. soln. of divalent cobalt salt with an excess of alkali hydroxide after which the resulting cobalt hydroxide is dehydrated, dried, and washed with water by a predetermined method. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. of divalent cobalt salt or a slurry of divalent cobalt double salt is reacted with alkali hydroxide in an amt. more than 1.2 times as much as divalent cobalt ions by equivalent to form cobalt hydroxide precipitates. The precipitates are dehydrated, dried, and treated in an aq. system, whereby it is washed with water until the concn. of alkali metal ions in the washing water becomes 200, pref. 100ppm or less. This washed cobalt hydroxide is then dehydrated, dried, and optionally calcined at 300-900, pref. 350-850 deg.C.
