    Abstract: A COMPOSITE TWO PHASE RUBBER-MODIFIED THERMOPLASTIC RESIN IS DESCRIBED IN WHICH A RUBBER COMPONENT HAS BEEN DISPERSED IN A THERMOPLASTIC RESIN MATRIX IN A FINELY DIVIDED FORM, WHEREIN THE RUBBER OARTICLES HAVE THE GEOMETRIC SHAPE OF OBLATE SPHEROID IN WHICH THE RATIO OF THE LENGTH OF THE MINOR AXIS TO THAT OF THE MAJOR AXIS IS AT MOST 0.5, WHICH RESIN DOES NOT EXHIBIT THE STRESS WHITENING PHENOMENON. ALSO DESCRIBED IS A METHOD OF PREPARING SUCH A RESIN FROM A SIMILAR RESIN WHEREIN THE RUBBER PARTICLES ARE OF SPHEROIDAL SHAPE WHICH INVOLVES ROLLING OR STRETCHING THE SAME WITHIN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE FROM ROOM TEMPERATURE TO THE SOFTENING TEMPOERATURE OF THE RESIN. ALSO DISCLOSED IS A METHOD FOR IMPROVING THE DIMENSIONAL STABILITY OF THE MODIFIED RESIN HAVING RUBBER PARTICLES IN THE SHAPE OF AN OBLATE SPHEROID BY HEAT TREATING UNDER TENSION OR WITH PERMISSIVE LIMITED SHRINKAGE AT A TEMPERATURE IN THE RANGE OF FROM AT LEAST 5%C. ABOVE THE HEAT DISTORTION TEMPERATURE TO A TEMPERATURE BELOW THE SOFTENING TEMPERATURE.

A rubber-modified resin comprises a thermoplastic resin having dispersed therein a finely divided rubber in an amount of 1 to 40 wt. per cent of the resin, the particles of the rubber component having the shape of an oblate spheroid of a ratio of minor axis to major axis of at most 0À5 and the average length of the minor axis being 0À05-10Á and the average length of the major axis being 0À1 to 60Á. The product can be obtained by stretching a sheet of a composition of resin containing spheres of rubber or stretching a graft polymer of resin forming monomers on a rubber backbone. The invention is particularly applicable to ABS polymers. The rubber-modified resin can be incorporated in polyvinyl chloride.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the screen which is light in weight, is free from ruggedness or warpage and twist on the surface and has the high strength even to local load by inserting both side faces of a planar foam with fiber reinforced resin layers to form a laminate and laminating a high-brightening material layer on the outside surface on one side of this laminate. CONSTITUTION:The laminate 6 formed by sandwiching the foam 5 by the fiber reinforced resin layers 4 from both sides is used as a body and the high- brightening material layer 7 is laminated on one surface thereof. This high- brightening material layer 7 is used as the projecting surface of the screen. The laminate 6 can be molded by using a forming mold. The screen 1 is constituted of the laminate 6 formed by sandwiching the foam 5 with the fiber reinforced resin layers 4 in this way, by which the weight of the screen is reduced to allow the easier transporting of the screen. The high rigidity is obtd. and the outside surface which is the projection surface thereof has good smoothness and is distortion-free. The images having the high sharpness are thus formed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a basket for centrifuge having light weight, high mechanical strength and high corrosion resistance by bonding integrally a FRP top plate formed by winding and layering reinforcing fibers with an FRP bottom plate whose side wall is formed by layering reinforcing fibers. CONSTITUTION:A basket A having light weight and remarkably high corrosion resistance is obtd. because a top plate 1, side wall 2, and a bottom plate 3 constituting said basket A are all made of FRP. Moreover, the top plate 1 and the side wall 2 are formed by crosswise winding and layering at least one layer of yarn or tape-shaped reinforcing continuous fiber to provide high mechanical strength durable to stresses in all directions. When a bottom plate 3 built by laying tape-shaped or mat-shaped reinforcing fibers in layers is bonded integrally to a shell part 4 consisting of said top plate 1 and said side wall 2, high mechanical strength is obtd. even when the thickness of the built layer is relatively thin, so the whole body of the apparatus is miniaturized.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a cassette for X-ray radio graphing at a low cost from a fiber reinforced resin having X-ray transmittability higher in performance than aluminum and more particularly a carbon fiber reinforced resin. CONSTITUTION:This cassette for X-ray radiographing is formed by assembling a back plate and a front plate 2 made of the fiber reinforced resin openably and closably in such a manner that a hollow groove 4a and a projecting part 14b formed on a peripheral frame part are meshed with each other. The body plate part 11 of the front plate 2 is composed of the fiber reinforced resin reinforced with at least one kind of the fibers selected from a group consisting of carbon fibers, arom. polyamide fibers and polyethylene fibers and the frame part 12 on the periphery thereof is molded of a thermoplastic resin.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a light wt. rotor for a centrifuge having high strength and capable of rotating at a higher speed, by using a rotor constituted by connecting a metal reinforcing plate to the upper surface of a pseudo-isotropic solid body comprising a fiber reinforced resin or a fiber reinforced metal. CONSTITUTION:A dish shaped metal reinforcing plate 5 comprising a light alloy such as a titanium alloy is bonded to the upper surface of a solid main body comprising a fiber reinforced resin such as an epoxy resin reinforced by a carbon or glass fiber or a fiber reinforced metal using a light metal such as aluminum as a matrix by together using an adhesive 3 and a bolt 4 to constitute a rotor. Further, unidirectional base materials wherein reinforcing fibers are arranged in parallel to one direction are laminated to the main body so that the adjacent ones cross to each other in a rotary axis direction at an angle of 15-60 deg. to make the rotor pseudo-isotropic to increase the strength thereof. By connecting the reinforcing plate, considerable strength can be held even if the wall thickness between cell insert holes 6 is small and not only the diameter of the rotor can be reduced but also the formation of a female screw 7 for a cap becomes easy.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To aim at improvement in strength and the promotion of lightweightiness in combination, by forming the spoke supporting part alone to be thicker than other parts, in case of a rim consisting of fiber reinforced plastics. CONSTITUTION:A rim 1 is formed into an almost heart-shaped cross-section form with hollow fiber reinforced plastics, and a tire 2 is fitly attached to the concave outer surface. And, metallic eyelets 3 for stretching a spoke 4 are attached to this rim 1 at a constant pitch in the longitudinal direction. In this case, a part, where each eyelet 3 is attached, of the rim 1, namely, a support part of the spoke 4 is formed to be thicker than other parts. With this constitution, only the required part of the rim 1 is formed in a thicker wall, making it fully resistible to stretching force of the spoke 4, whereby improvement in strength and the promotion of lightweightiness both come to fruition.
