Abstract: PURPOSE:To upgrade a heat-radiating effect and to prevent cracks from occurring at a sealed part and to make this lamp large-powered and small-sized, by performing rough-surface processing on a part of an anode sealed protruding inside a lamp bulb. CONSTITUTION:In a sealed part 1a of a lamp bulb 1 made of quartz, a base end part 2a of an anode 2 made of tungsten is connected to an external introduction wire 4 by an electrical method, with airtight sealing metallic foil 3 of molybdenum or the like in between. A xenon gas is sealed in the bulb 1. A surface of a protruding part 26 of the anode, where a getter 5 for use in suction of impure gases is mounted, is provided with rough processing 6 by the use of a sand blast method or the like. Accordingly, a heat-radiating effect can be upgraded by a simple method without enlarging the anode and the sealed part and also without forming a groove on a surface of the anode. Further the amount of high temperature, caused by the lighting of the lamp, being conveyed to the base end part 2a is reduced to avoid such a trouble that a glass of the sealed part 1a is cracked and soon broken.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain safety and handling facility when a radioactive substance is sealed in a luminous tube by sticking and holding the radioactive substance on a hole part bored in a holder. CONSTITUTION:Buffer metal, metal halide, and a starting inert gas are sealed in a luminous tube 4, and besides a radioactive substance holder member 18 is sealed in the tube. A radioactive substance 21 is sticked and held on a hole part 19 which is bored in a cylindrical holder 20 of the holder member 18. When a voltage is applied to this lamp, a current flows via a bimetal 17, a glow discharge lamp 16, and a currentlimitting resistor 15. A pulse voltage is generated by continuity and discontinuity of the current flowing due to opening and closing operations of a bimetal contact in the lighting tube 1 6, so that auxiliary discharge between a main electrode 7 and a starting auxiliary electrode 9 advances to main electrodes 7 and 8 so as to generate main arc discharge.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make a desired lamp characteristic securable, by forming an inner surface of a metal tube, supporting an electrode at an end of a light emitting tube bulb consisting of translucent ceramics, into a rough surface, and controlling the surface temperature of excess sealing amalgam being collected inside the metal tube. CONSTITUTION:In a light emitting tube bulb 1 consisting of translucent ceramics, the double end opening parts are airtightly sealed by blockers 2A and 2B via glass solder 3. A metal tube 4 is airtightly pierced through the blocker 2A on one side via the glass solder 3. Such a rough surface 8 as making superfluously sealed mercury and sodium, to be collected at the side of a sealed end 4a of the metal tube 4 or the coldest part, shiftable by, for example, a capillary phenomenon is installed in an inner surface of the metal tube 4. Excess sodium amalgam 7 can be shifted to the yet higher temperature rough surface part 8 than the coldest part position so far stayed. With this constitution, a surface temperature of the excess sodium amalgam 7 goes up, whereby vapor pressure inside a light emitting tube is made to go up as well so that a desired lamp characteristic is securable.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a discharge lamp whose formation of black tube wall caused by radioactive material is prevented and decrease in a luminous flux is eliminated by containing radioactive material in a ceramic, covering its surface with a heat resistant insulator, then sealing it within a luminescent tube. CONSTITUTION:A set of electrodes 2a, 2b are mounted within a luminescent tube container 1. A ceramic 6 containing radioactive material such as Pm is sealed within the luminescent tube container 1. The ceramic 6 is covered with a cover 7 comprising heat resistant insulator such as zirconia. The luminescent tube 1 is sealed in an envelope to form a high pressure metal vapor discharge lamp. This lamp quickly starts lighting and decreases starting voltage. Formation of black tube wall caused by reaction of radioactive material with electrode material is prevented. Therefore, decrease in luminous flux is eliminated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve safety for an enclosed radioactive-ray source and to facilitate its handling by glassing a surface of a ceramic matter in which radioactive materials are dispersed and included end which is sealed in a metallic vapor discharge lamp. CONSTITUTION:Mercury as buffer metal, and metal halide and inert gas for starting are sealed in a luminous tube 4. Further, an enclosed radioactive material ray source 18 is housed in this generation tube 4. This ray source 18 is formed by diffusing and containing a radioactive material 19 in a ceramic material 20 and enclosing this external surface of the material 20 with glass 21. When the ceramic matter wherein the material 19 is diffused and contained is heated, for example, in a vacuum atmosphere in order to form this glass 21, an external surface itself of the ceramic matter 20 is glassed and also the material 19 is contained into the layer of this glass. Since the material 19 is sealed in the luminous tube 4 inside this lamp, a rapid starting operation is obtained. Besides, since the ray source 18 is formed by enclosing the outer surface of the ceramic matter 20 with the glass 21, this ray source is stable and remarkably preventive of scattering and peeling of the material 19.
