Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a tetrabromobisphenol A having improved powder properties such as adhesivity, cohesivity and flowability, decreased content of impurities such as hydrolyzable bromine and high thermal stability and to provide a process for producing the compound. CONSTITUTION:The powder properties of the subject compound can be improved by crystallizing the compound in the form of polyhedral single crystal having an average particle diameter of 150-500mum. The crystal can be produced by brominating bisphenol A in an alcoholic solvent, adding water to the system, separating the crystallized tetrabromobisphenol A by filtration, dissolving the crystal in an alcoholic solvent, adding an alkaline aqueous solution and evaporating the alcoholic solvent from the mixture.
