Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially suitable process for the production of a diaryl carbonate by the decarbonylation reaction of a diaryl oxalate in the presence of a decarbonylation catalyst, especially an industrial process for producing a diaryl carbonate in high conversion and selectivity by using the diaryl oxalate and the decarbonylation catalyst in a state free from influence on the decarbonylation reaction. SOLUTION: A diaryl carbonate is produced by the decarbonylation reaction of a diaryl oxalate in the presence of a decarbonylation catalyst. A diaryl oxalate having controlled contents of aromatic hydroxy compounds, alkyl aryl oxalates, water and the like is used as the raw material. As an alternative, a diaryl oxalate having controlled water content and contained in a raw material mixture containing the diaryl oxalate and the decarbonylation catalyst is used as the raw material.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To enable the efficient recovery of methyl nitrite in an absorbent solution and the resultant reduction in the loss of the methyl nitrite, further the reduction in the amount of the methyl nitrite or nitrogen oxide supplemented to a reactional system and the suppression of the amount of a purged circulating gas or the amount of supplemented carbon monoxide. CONSTITUTION: The produced dimethyl carbonate is absorbed in dimethyl oxalate which is an absorbing medium to provide an absorbent solution, which is then brought into contact with carbon monoxide fed from the outside of a gas circulating system to recover methyl nitrite in the absorbent solution in a method for producing the dimethyl carbonate by catalytically reacting the carbon monoxide with the methyl nitrite in the presence of a solid catalyst in the vapor phase.
