    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title powder excellent in sinterability and moldability by blending Si3N4 powder consisting of fine particles, middle particles and coarse particles at a prescribed rate. CONSTITUTION:For example, both silicon halide such as SiCl4 and a nitrogencontg. compd. such as NH3 are allowed to react with each other in a liquid phase and produced silicon diimide is thermally decomposed to obtain amorphous Si3N4. Then this is utilized as a raw material and one part thereof is calcined and both this calcined powder and the residual amorphous Si3N4 are uniformly mixed with a vibration mill, etc., and thereafter the mixture is calcined to obtain Si3N4 powder. Then this powder is separated into coarse particles having 0.50-3.0mu mean particle diameter, middle particles having 0.15-0.50mu mean particle diameter and fine particles having 0.05-0.15mu mean particle diameter obtained by pulverizing the middle particles in accordance with necessity and these are blended so as to be regulated to the rate within slanting lines shown in a triangular diagram.

    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A biphenyltetracarboxylic acid diimide compound of formula I (R is allyl or glycidyl) or formula II. EXAMPLE:N,N'-Diallyl-3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid diimide. USE:Raw material of heat-resistant cured product. It can be cured with a conventional epoxidization curing agent or crosslinking agent, and gives a cured product having excellent heat resistance. A material obtained by melting and quenching the diimide compound having glycidyl group can be compounded uniformly with a curing agent at a low temperature. PROCESS:The compound of formula I or formula II wherein R is allyl is obtained by heating a solution of an amic acid prepared by reacting biphenyltetracarboxylic acid with allylamine. Oxidation and subsequent epoxidization of the above compound affords the compound of formula I or formula II wherein R is glycidyl.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To stably obtain a carbonic acid diester in high selectivity and yield by subjecting CO to vapor phase reaction with a nitrite under mild conditions using a solid catalyst consisting of a platinum group, metal group of iron, copper, etc., metal group of V, W, etc., and chloride of alkali (earth) metal. CONSTITUTION:Carbon monoxide is subjected to vapor phase reaction with a nitrite (particularly, methyl nitrite or ethyl nitrite) using a solid catalyst obtained by supporting a platinum group metal such as Pd or Pt or compound thereof as the primary catalyst component, compound of a metal selected from iron, copper, Bi, Co, Ni and tin as the secondary catalyst compound, a compound of metal selected from V, Mo and W as the tertiary catalyst component and chloride (e.g. NaCl or NaK) of alkali metal as the forth component on the support to provide carbonic acid diester (e.g. dimethyl carbonate). The above-mentioned reaction can be stably carried out under mild conditions in high selectivity and yield without accompanying danger in the operation by subjecting the above-mentioned component to vapor phase reaction under low temperature and pressure using the above-mentioned catalyst. Separation of catalyst is made unnecessary and metal thereof is not eluted, because the reaction is carried out in vapor phase. Therefore, the above-mentioned method is a industrially advantageous method.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a carbonic acid diester in high selectivity and yield by the vapor-phase catalytic reaction of CO with a nitrous acid ester under mild condition in the presence of a catalyst produced by supporting palladium tetraammine molybdate and a compound of a metal selected from Fe, Cu, Bi, Co, Ni and Sn on a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A carbonic acid diester is produced by the vapor-phase catalytic reaction of carbon monoxide with a nitrous acid ester using a solid catalyst produced by supporting (A) a catalyst consisting of palladium tetraammine molybdate prepared e.g. by reacting a palladium salt with a molybdic acid salt in an ammoniacal aqueous solution and (B) a cocatalyst consisting of a compound of a metal selected from Fe, Cu, Bi, Co, Ni and Sn on a carrier. The carbonic acid diester can stably be produced in high selectivity and yield at low temperature under low pressure by the use of the above solid catalyst and the process is advantageous for industrial use.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To safely obtain the subject compound in high selectivity and yield under a mild condition by reacting CO with a nitrite ester in a gaseous phase in the presence of a solid catalyst whose activity is stable for a long period and which is prepared by carrying a three component compound such as Pt-Fe-V compound on a carrier. CONSTITUTION:CO is reacted with a nitrite ester such as methyl nitrite in the presence of a solid catalyst at 0-200 deg.C under the ordinary atmospheric pressure at a gas space rate of 500-20000hr in a gaseous phase to prepare the objective compound useful as a raw material for synthesizing medicines, agricultural chemicals, etc. The solid catalyst has a composition of the formula which is prepared by carrying (the first catalyst component) a platinum group metal or a compound thereof such as PdCl2, (the second component) the compound of a metal selected from copper, iron, bismuth, cobalt, nickel and tin, such as cupric chloride, and (the third catalyst component) the compound of a metal selected from molybdenum, vanadium and tungsten, such as ammonium molybdenate, on a carrier such as active carbon.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To uniformly combine components in powder and to obtain silicon carbonitride at a low cost by heat-treating a mixture of powder of a nitrogen- contg. silane compd. and/or amorphous silicon nitride with an aliphatic compd. and/or an arom. compd. under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of powder of a nitrogen-contg. silane compd. and/or amorphous silicon nitride with polyhydric phenol is heat-treated at 1,450-1,900 deg.C in an inert gaseous atmosphere. By this heat treatment, carbon is formed from the phenol and crystalline silicon nitride from the powder. The carbon reacts with the silicon nitride to form silicon carbide. The resulting silicon carbonitride is fine powder of silicon carbide and silicon nitride combined on a particle level and is suitable for use as starting material for a sintered body having high strength at high temp.
