    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-molecular weight polycarbonate having narrow molecular weight distribution and excellent thermal stability by subjecting a bishydroxy compound and a bisaryl carbonate to melt polycondensation in the presence of a catalyst of phosphorus compound. CONSTITUTION:A bishydroxy compound [e.g. bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)methane, etc.] is blended with a bisaryl carbonate (e.g. diphenyl carbonate) in a ratio of 1:1-1.1 (molecular ratio) and subjected to melt polycondensation in the presence of preferably 100-5,000ppm (based on bishydroxy compound) of a catalyst of phosphorus compound (e.g. triphenyl phosphate) of the formula (R1 to R3 are 1-25C alkyl, 6-25C aryl, 1-25C alkyloxy or 6-25C aryloxy) to give the objective polycarbonate.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a transparent thin plate freed from volume change, strain, etc., by curing a thermosetting resin composition obtained by adding a radical polymerization initiator, an OH-containing (meth)acrylate and a release agent to a solution containing a specified urethane (meth)acrylate in a smooth mold. CONSTITUTION:A thermosetting resin composition is obtained by adding an organic peroxide or another radical polymerization initiator, an OH-containing (meth)acrylate and a release agent to a solution of urethane (meth)acrylate obtained by reacting a diisocyanate compound (e.g., hexamethylene diisocyanate) with a dihydroxy organic compound (e.g., bisphenol Z) and an OH-containing (meth)acrylate (e.g., 2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate) in a radical-polymerizable vinyl compound (e.g., styrene) as a solvent. This composition is cured at 30-200 deg.C in a smooth mold to obtain a thin plate.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the industrial production of a polycarbonate by producing a diaryl oxalate from a dialkyl oxalate, converting the diaryl oxalate into a diaryl carbonate by decarbonylation reaction and subjecting the obtained diaryl carbonate to polycondensation reaction (e.g. melt- polymerization). SOLUTION: This process for the production of a polycarbonate comprises the 1st step to react a dialkyl oxalate with a phenolic compound to produce a diaryl oxalate, the 2nd step to form a diaryl carbonate and by-produced carbon monoxide by the decarbonylation reaction of the diaryl oxalate and the 3rd step to produce a polycarbonate and a by-produced phenolic compound by the polycondensation reaction of the diaryl carbonate with a polyhydric hydroxy compound. The phenolic compound produced in the 3rd step is separated, recovered and reused in the reaction of the 1st step.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a transparent material improved in moisture absorption and solvent resistance by adding an allylic compound to a mixture of an alkyl acrylate with an acrylate, and casting the mixture in the presence of a radical initiator to polymerize. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. mixture comprising an alkyl acrylate of formula I and an acrylate of formula II with the weight ratio being 9/1-5/5 is added to 0.5-20 pts.wt. compound having 2 or more -C-C=C- groups (allyl groups) as a crosslinking agent to obtain a composition. The resulting composition is polymerized by casting in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator to produce a transparent material. In the formula, R1 and R2 are each 1-5C alkyl; R3 is H or 1-5C alkyl; R4 is phenyl, benzyl or 5-20C cycloalkyl represented by formula III. The polymerization temperature is 50-150 deg.C, and also the polymerization can be carried out in a multi-stage reaction with varying the polymerization temperature.
