Abstract: An ethylene polymer is produced with an excellent yield by bringing a feed containing ethylene into contact with a catalyst which comprises (A) a solid catalytic ingredient prepared (a) by reacting a Grignard compound with a reaction product of an aluminum halide with an organic silicon compound of the formula, R1nSi(OR2)4-n wherein R1 = C1-8 alkyl or phenyl, R2 = C1-8 alkyl and n= 1, 2 or 3 and (b) by bringing the resultant solid reaction product into contact with titanium tetrahalide and (B) another catalytic ingredient consisting of at least one trialkyl aluminum.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the production of a conjugated diene polymer having a controlled microstructure at a high polymerization activity in the presence of a metallocene type complex of compound of transition metal of the group V of the Periodic Table. A novel catalyst is provided comprising (A) a metallocene type complex of a transition metal of the group V of the Periodic Table, (B) an ionic compound of a non-coordinating anion and a cation, (C) an organic metal compound of the groups I to III and (D) water, wherein the molar ratio of (C)/(D) is from 0.66 to 5. A novel process for the production of a conjugated diene polymer is also provided, which comprises the polymerization of a conjugated diene compound in the presence of a catalyst comprising (A) a metallocene type complex of a transition metal of the group V of the Periodic Table, (B) an ionic compound of a non-coordinating anion and a cation, (C) an organic metal compound of the groups I to III and (D) water, wherein the molar ratio of (C)/(D) is from 0.66 to 5.
