    Abstract: A fabric conditioning composition comprising a substantially water insoluble cationic fabric softening agent and a copolymer characterised in that the copolymer comprises the following monomers: a) a negatively charged monomer having at least one carboxylate group and having the formula: R1R3C=CR2R4 wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 are independently selected from H, or a C1-C4 alkyl group or a (CH2)nCOOR5 in which n is an integer between 1 and 6 or is 0 and R5 is H or a C1-C4 alkyl group, and at least one of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is a (CH2)nCOOR5 group, and b) a vinyl substituted heterocyclic monomer containing at least one nitrogen atom, and wherein the mole ratio of a):b) is in the range 20:80 to 50:50. Examples include, 70:30 Polyvinylimidazole/Acrylic acid copolymer. The fabric conditioning composition gives reduced dye transfer benefits. Use of the copolymer in a fabric conditioning composition as a dye transfer inhibiting copolymer in a fabric conditioning composition, wherein the copolymer does not cause de-stabilisation is also provided.

    Abstract: A rinse conditioner composition, giving excellent deposition of a Colour Care Active onto fabric, so preventing the fading of coloured fabrics is provided, comprising a fabric softening compound, and 0.01 % to 10 % by weight of the total composition of a Colour Care Active, wherein the Colour Care Active is not stable to light and further wherein when the composition comprises up to 0.05 % of the Colour Care Active the cationic fabric softening compound comprises a quartenary ammonium compound having at least one ester linking group or nonionic softening compounds or mixtures thereof. Also provided is a process of treating laundry comprising placing the laundry in a domestic washing machine, or suitable washing vessel, for example a bucket; washing the laundry under normal domestic conditions; and adding the above composition at the rinse stage of the laundry cycle.

    Abstract: The invention provides liquid compositions comprising: (a) 15-95 wt % lipophilic perfume. (b) 0.05-5 wt % water-soluble dye, (c) 4-50 wt % of a stabilising agent comprising a cationic stabilising agent, and (d) water miscible solvent wherein the composition comprises between 0.1 to 20 wt % water, the cationic stabilising agent has an Lalpha to Lbeta transition temperature of 45° C. or less for a 5 wt % dispersion of the stabilising agent in water, and the solvent is present in an amount of up to 10 wt %. These concentrated perfume and dye compositions find particular application in fabric softening compositions. Also provided is a method of preparing a fabric conditioning composition by preparing a base composition comprising a cationic and/or nonionic fabric softening agent, and adding thereto, a composition of the invention. The fabric conditioning compositions thus produced are also provided. Simplified automated manufacture of fabric softening compositions is achieved.
