    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a uniform liquid crystal alignment layer for solving various problems in conventional techniques. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal alignment layer is produced by a long throw sputtering method including steps of mounting a substrate on a substrate carrier in a chamber, bombarding and sputtering a target above the substrate with a high-density plasma to produce a sputtered substance, and applying a bias voltage in the chamber to deposit the sputtered substance along a nearly normal direction onto the substrate surface to form an alignment layer.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an off-axis optical engine for an LCoS projection system for solving the various problems of known technique. SOLUTION: The off-axis optical engine for the LCoS projection system includes one or more liquid crystal panels including a liquid crystal layer; a light source for generating first beams; and a beam condensing system for condensing the first beams and projecting the beam onto the liquid crystal panels. The first beam has a constant incident angle relative to the surface of the liquid crystal panels.
