    Abstract: Amorphous boric oxide-containing product having about 80 to 90% B2O3 is produced by heating boric acid to an elevated temperature of about 180 DEG to 220 DEG C. to dehydrate the boric acid and form a molten glass which is cooled to a solid glassy product. The solid glass can be comminuted to produce a particulate product. Preferably the boric acid is heated at about 195 DEG to 205 DEG C. The process is readily adapted to a continuous process in which the boric acid is continuously fed through a heated reactor-mixer such as a Kneadermaster mixer or Discotherm mixer. The molten glassy product is cooled to form a solid glassy product which can be comminuted to a desirable particle size range.

    Abstract: Un producto que contiene oxido borico amorfo que tiene de aproximadamente 80 a 90 % de B203 se produce mediante el calentamiento de ácido borico a una temperatura elevada de aproximadamente 180 degree a 220 degree C pata deshidratar el ácido borico y formar un vidrio derretido que se enfría para formar un producto vidrioso solido. El vidrio solido puede triturarse para producir un producto en partículas. De preferencia, el ácido borico se calienta a una temperatura de aproximadamente 195 degree C. El proceso se adapta fácilmente a un proceso continuo en al cual el ácido borico se alimenta continuamente a través de un reactor-mezclador calentando como por ejemplo un mezclador Kneadermaster o bien un mezclador Discotherm. El producto vidrioso en fusion se enfría para formar un producto vidrioso solido que puede triturarse hasta un rango deseable de tamaños de partículas.
