Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a premixed fuel injector in which different size changes due to a thermal expansion can be allowed. SOLUTION: An insert 40 is solidly fixed at a shell 38 of a centerbody 32. A fuel supply tube 42 is solidly brazed with the shell 38. The tube 42 is spirally bent in order to allow different size changes. Since there is no slip between the shell 38 and the insert 40, a leak due to abrasion does not occur, thus secondary air is correctly supplied. When the shell 38 is expanded against the tube 42, since the insert 40 does not retreat into the inside of the shell 38, a state in which flame flows into the inside of the shell 38 can be prevented. The curve of the shell 42 is set so that the natural frequency thereof becomes considerably larger than the frequency that is received during the time of operation of an engine.

Abstract: A premixing, tangential entry fuel injector (10) for a gas turbine engine features a secondary fuel-air injection insert (40) positively secured to a centerbody shell (38) by a braze joint (98). A secondary fuel supply tube (42), positively secured to both a centerbody base (36) and to the insert (40), is curved in at least two dimensions. In an exemplary embodiment, the tube is coiled into a spiral shape covering a single 360.degree. cycle. During engine operation, the centerbody expands axially in response to elevated temperatures in the engine's interior, causing the insert (40) to be displaced away from the base (36). The curvature of the tube allows the tube to flex slightly to accommodate the displacement. Ideally the curvature of the tube is such that the tube's natural frequency is well above the maximum vibratory frequency that the tube will experience during engine operation.
