Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide laser cutoff material suitable for mass production and relatively easily removable without repeating work taking time and without forming a noxious fluid. SOLUTION: A fixture 56 for arranging laser cutoff material at an airfoil 10 comprises a sprue plate 62. The sprue plate 62 applies force to one end of the airfoil 10 to press the other end of the airfoil 10 to the face of relatively soft material so as to support and arrange a blade in the span direction. The sprue plate 62 comprises a passage 65 for receiving pressurized cutoff material and discharging the cutoff material into the airfoil 10.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a swift and simple method and a related device for replacing a damaged vane assembly located at a rear of the fan of a turbine engine. SOLUTION: A repair device for replacing a vane which cannot be used by a turbine engine has a vane sub-assembly which is provided with an air foil 124 attached with a base connected to a base end part and an opposite base 1 which can be slided on the air foil which can be used. The opposite base 156 is slide toward a connection base through an end part of the air foil 134. The opposite base 156 is fixed to an outside easing with a stud and a nut.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a barrier material suitable for mass production and relatively readily removable without forming a noxious fluid and without repeating operations requiring much time. SOLUTION: This barrier material 52 for reducing the intensity of a laser beam L in a laser mechanical treatment contains a thermoplastic polymer which is formed of only carbon and hydrogen, has >=30 melt flow index and is partially crystalline so as to have >40% crystallinity so that the radiation beam of the laser beam L is diffused. The barrier material 52 has elastic characteristics and deforms according to the load as the material expands when undergoing a burnout treatment and is capable of making a stress escape so as not to transmit all the force by the thermal expansion of the material to an air foil 10.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for arranging a laser prevention material inside an aerofoil having cooling holes easily. SOLUTION: An insertion material 74 of a laser prevention material having a shear-viscosity property bigger than 0 is formed, and arranged in a chamber 72 equipped with a nozzle. Furthermore, one part of the material is inserted in the nozzle from the chamber 72 so that shear-viscosity occurs to at least one part of the material before the material flows in the aerofoil 10. Also, energy is applied to the material so that the material temperature is raised higher than its melting point before the material flows into the aerofoil 10. A laser prevention material is pressurized under such a presser that additive shear-viscosity occurs when the material flow through a passage having a water diameter smaller than 40 mills (1 mm).

Abstract: A fixture 56 for disposing laser blocking material 52 on the interior of an airfoil 10 is disclosed. Various construction details are developed which allow for the repetitive disposition of the laser blocking material in one airfoil after another. In one embodiment, the fixture includes a sprue plate 62 and locating block 126 which are spanwisely spaced and engage the ends 14, 18 of the airfoil.

Abstract: A method of bonding articles together utilizing a short term corrosive pretreatment prior to application of an amorphous hydrated metal oxide primer and an adhesive resulting in a joint resistant to crack propagation. The method comprises bonding a plurality of articles together, at least one of which is metal. The surface of the metal article is exposed to a corrosive environment at a temperature less than about 50 DEG C. Then a layer comprising Mx(OR)y wherein x is 1, y is 3 or 4, M is any metal capable of forming a stable alkoxide and R is an organic radical, is applied to the pretreated surface. Then the coated metal article is exposed to moisture and a temperature of about 25 DEG C to about 125 DEG C. The metal article is bonded to another article with a polymeric adhesive.

Abstract: A method for disposing laser blocking material 52 on the interior of an airfoil 10, such as a rotor blade or stator vane, includes shear thinning the material. Various steps are developed which promote decreases in viscosity of the blocking material. In one detailed embodiment, the material is passed through an injection molding machine 54 to provide shear thinning.
