Abstract:
An apparatus for shelling an investment casting pattern (22) has a tank (26) containing a coating material (28). There are means for holding the pattern immersed in the coating material. There may be means for vibrating the pattern during immersion of the pattern and a vacuum source (126) coupled to the tank to withdraw air from at least one headspace (79) of the tank.
Abstract:
An article may be manufactured by providing a reticulate core element (456) in a mold shell having a shape at least partially corresponding to a shape of the article. The molten metallic material is introduced to the shell so as to at least partially infiltrate into the reticulate core element (456). The molten metallic material is permitted to solidify. The shell and the reticulate core element (456) are destructively removed. The removal leaves the article with one or more gas-permeable porous regions.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A blade (60; 60-2) comprises an airfoil (61) and an attachment root (63). The blade has a tipward zone (80; 80-2; 80-2, 81) and a rootward zone (82; 82-2, 81; 82). The rootward zone has a single crystal structure. The tipward zone has a single crystal structure. The crystalline orientations of the rootward zone and tipward zone are at least 15° out of registry with each other.
