A stator assembly for a rotary machine includes a casing 26 having a plurality of flats 74 arranged around openings 70 which receive stator vanes 28. The flats 74 adapt the casing 26 to engage corresponding flats 76 on the stator vanes 28.

A disclosed fixture for assembling a stator vane assembly for a gas turbine engine includes an outer locating ring including a plurality of outer locating pins defining a position for each of a plurality of vanes relative to an outer fairing and an inner locating ring including a plurality of inner locating rings defining a position of each of the plurality of vanes relative to an inner fairing. A clamp section includes a clamp portion and a clamp pin that define an angular orientation of each of the plurality of vanes relative to each of the inner and outer fairings, and an inner locating section supporting a plurality of radial locating pins defining a radial position of each of the plurality of vanes relative to the inner and outer fairings.
