    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the stability of a compressor and to improve the efficiency thereof by forming a groove continuing in a circumferential direction and defined with an upper stream wall and a lower stream wall axially separated, at a specified angle, on an inner peripheral surface of a casing arranged so as to surround a blade line of the compressor. SOLUTION: A fan of a compressor radially provided with a blade 16 extending outward in a diametrical direction from a hub 12 rotating about a compressor rotating shaft 14, has a casing 36 having an inner cannel surface 38 of a diametrical direction. A groove 40 continuing in a circumferential direction and defined with a the casing 36 an upper stream wall 42 and a lower stream wall 44 which are axially separated is formed on the casing 36. An upper stream rip 48 and a lower stream rip 50 formed by the groove 40 are continued to the cannel surface 38. The upper stream wall 42 is preferably arranged to form an acute angle θA to the cannel surface 38, and the lower stream wall 44 is arranged to form an acute angle θO, thereby ensuring fluid mechanics stability of the compressor.

The compartment attenuates the inordinate circumferential pressure difference across the tips of excessively loaded compressor blades (16), making the compressor less susceptible to tip vortex induced instabilities.
