Abstract: A composition and surgical method involving the use as an ophthalmic viscoelastic surgical material of an aqueous solution containing at least 1.5 %, by weight, of a water soluble polyvinylpyrrolidone or polyvinylpyrrolidone copolymer having a molecular weight greater than 500,000 and a viscosity greater than 5,000 centipoises.
