Abstract: 1400646 Photometers USTAV PRO VYZKUM RUD 14 May 1973 [16 May 1972] 22805/73 Heading G1A A photometer includes a discharge tube 5 arranged to emit first and second cyclically varying light beams and a radiation detector 17 arranged to receive both light beams. Discharge tube 5 is situated between pole shoes of A.C. energized electromagnets 1, 2 which create a magnetic flux coaxial with the radiation axis and which causes the radiation to oscillate in a plane perpendicular .to the lines of magnetic force. The radiation passes through screens 7, 8, 9 each provided with a pair of parallel slots 11, 12, filter 15 and measuring cells 13, 14. The two beams generate in the detector 17 a voltage of the same frequency but opposite phase which voltages are added together so that provided they are of equal amplitude the output from amplifier 18 is zero. If, the voltages are different due to absorption in one of the cells 13, 14 an output signal is obtained from amplifier 18 which actuates wedge filter control element 19 to move filter 16 into the path of one of the beams to reduce the amplifier output to zero, the compensating signal being a measure of the sample in the measuring cell. The photometer may be used to measure the element from a chromatographic column. One of the sample cells may contain a reference medium.
