PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method which is more conveniently used to produce non-solid products (e.g., polyester coatings) initially before employing pelletized solid polyester resins in consideration of: shortening the cycle time of polyester production; obtaining products in a syrup form; and containing a polymer and a nonreactive carrier.SOLUTION: An oligomer is converted into a polymer by polycondensation at high temperature under high pressure in a nonreactive carrier capable of forming an azeotrope with water, and medium and high molecular weight polyester polymers are produced in a syrup form from an ester oligomer. The oligomerization and polycondensation reactions are monitored using a non-viscometric measurement method.

Medium and high molecular weight polyester polymers are prepared in syrup form from an ester oligomer. The oligomer is converted to the polymer by polycondensation at atmospheric pressure and elevated temperature in a nonreactive carrier capable of forming an azeotrope with water. The ester oligomerization or polycondensation reactions desirably are monitored using a non-viscometric technique. The process has a rapid cycle time. The syrup contains the polymer and nonreactive carrier, and may more conveniently be used to make initially non-solid products such as polyester coatings than is the case when employing pelletized solid polyester resins.

A method for coloring powders is provided that includes mixing a base powder and non-incorporated pigments. A colored powder composition having a base powder particle and at least a partial shell of non-incorporated pigments about the base powder particle is also provided. Articles having a coating of the colored powder composition are also provided.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a coating composition, a method of coating a substrate, and a coated substrate, (e.g., a coated cemented fiberboard article). In preferred embodiments the coating composition includes one or more latex polymers and an aliphatic epoxy resin system. The coating composition can include one or more coating compositions that may be applied in one or more layers. A coated article comprising a cement fiberboard substrate and a coating system applied to the substrate is also provided. The article includes a first coating system applied to the substrate, wherein the first coating system includes an aliphatic epoxy resin system having an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles, optionally a silicate additive, and optionally one or more olefinic compounds and initiator for same. The first coating system preferably includes one or more coating compositions that may be applied in one or more layers. In a preferred embodiment, the first coating system is applied to all the surfaces of the substrate (e.g., the front side, back side and edges of a board). The coated substrate may then be coated with other optional coatings, e.g., decorative or protective topcoats.
Abstract:
The bottom of a cement fiberboard article is coated by conveying the article across a gap between a first conveyor and second conveyer and applying a liquid radiation-curable coating system to at least the bottom surface of the article while the article passes over the gap. The coating system is radiation-cured to at least a reduced tack state before the coated surface contacts the second conveyor.

Se preparan polímeros de poliéster de peso molecular medio y alto en forma de jarabe a partir de un oligómero de éster. El oligómero es convertido al polímero mediante policondensación a presión atmosférica y temperatura elevada en un portador no reactivo capaz de formar un azeótropo con agua. Las reacciones de oligomerización de éster o policondensación son monitoreadas deseablemente usando una técnica no viscométrica. El proceso tiene un tiempo de ciclo rápido. El jarabe contiene el polímero y portador no reactivo, y puede usarse más convenientemente para hacer productos no sólidos inicialmente, tales como recubrimientos de poliéster que es el caso cuando se emplean resinas de poliéster sólidas pelletizadas.
