Abstract: 1,030,667. Ventilating vehicles. VAPOR CORPORATION. June 22, 1964 [Aug. 14, 1963], No. 25643/64. Heading F4V. A rail car ventilation system includes air supply ducts 30 at the intersection of the side walls and floor feeding air outlets 34 via ducts 32 formed between the side walls 22 and partitions 31. The ducts 30 are supplied with fresh and/or recirculated air by a blower unit 38 (Fig. 1), the proportions being controlled by a damper 45. Heating or cooling means 51 may be mounted in the blower outlet. Fan units 52 are mounted in the roof of the car to either circulate air within the car or to exhaust air to atmosphere. The fan unit shown in Fig. 6 draws air from the car through an inlet 53, and if dampers 63 are open passes it through an outlet 62 to atmosphere. If dampers 63 are closed, air is recirculated over heating or cooling elements 66 and through an outlet including concentric louvres 64. The alternative fan unit shown in Fig. 7 has heating or cooling units 106 and is similar in operation. The air outlet dampers 73 are operated through a link 75 pivoted at 76 and a rod 79 having notches 80 which engage a hanger 82 and retain the dampers in a desired position. Alternatively, the dampers 73 may be operated pneumatically or automatically in response to air temperature. Heating or cooling elements may be included in the ducts 30 which may have damper controlled outlets to the car floor space (Fig. 13).
