A door overtravel mechanism 10 interconnecting door operator 11 and sliding door 12 comprises connecting rod 13, bracket assembly 14 consisting of U-shaped bracket 15 and backing plate 16, and means for connecting the bracket assembly with the connecting rod. The latter means include a pair of annular conical retainers 21 and 22 arranged on each side of an opening 19 in the bight 15a of the bracket. Conical retainer 22 bottoms one end of compression spring 23, the other end abutting against a shoulder formed on the connecting rod. An annular collar 26 is bottomed against conical retainer 21 and held at the end of the connecting rod by pin 27. The connecting rod may be connected to the door operator by lever 31.
