    Abstract: A wind turbine nacelle including an outer cover defining an interior volume within which is housed a powertrain assembly comprising: a gearbox including an input shaft and an output shaft which are aligned on a common rotational axis, an electrical power generator connected to the output shaft of the gearbox. The power generator includes a generator cabinet that encloses, in an internal chamber, a stator at a radially outward position and a rotor in a radially inward position, the rotor being rotatable about the common rotational axis. The rotor comprises: a cylindrical field structure coupled to a rotor support frame; a gearbox connection flange that couples to the gearbox output shaft by a first fixing array; wherein the generator cabinet is provided with an opening that permits maintenance personal to gain access fully inside the internal chamber, and wherein the internal chamber is configured to allow maintenance personnel to access at least the first fixing array that couples the gearbox output shaft to the gearbox connection flange from a position fully inside the internal chamber.

    Abstract: A wind turbine powertrain assembly including a gearbox coupled to an electrical power generator for a wind turbine. The power generator comprises a stator at a radially outward position and a rotor in a radially inward position, wherein the rotor comprises a cylindrical field structure that is configured to rotate about a generator rotor axis, and wherein the rotor is configured to define a central hollow portion. The rotor further comprises a rotor support frame connected to and structurally supporting the cylindrical field structure, wherein the rotor support frame comprises: a rotor connection flange attaching the rotor support frame to the cylindrical field structure, a gearbox connecting flange connecting the rotor support frame to an output drive shaft of the gearbox, and a transition section extending between the rotor connection flange and the gearbox connection flange, the transition section defined at least in part by one or more stepping regions, the or each stepping region shaped to define a surface that is inclined at an angle of less than 30 degrees to the rotor axis. Advantageously, the stepping regions provide an integrated platform inside the hollow portion on which service personnel can stand to work inside the generator.

    Abstract: A stator mount and a tool for adjusting the position of a stator mount of a stator of a generator of a wind turbine. The stator mount comprises a support member having a plurality of elongate both holes which provide adjustability between the stator mount and the frame of a generator housing, or between separate components of the stator mount itself. The stator mount may comprise one or more adjustment devices for adjusting the position of the stator mount in use. A tool is provided which may be used to adjust the position of the stator mounts. The tool attaches to the frame of the generator and comprises one or more adjustment devices for adjusting the position of the stator in use.

    Abstract: A generator (24) for a wind turbine (1) comprises a rotor (32) with an axis of rotation, a stator and a radial and/or axial locking mechanism. The radial locking mechanism comprises a plurality of radial locks (60) with a fixed portion (70) coupled to the stator and a movable elongate portion (72) configured to move relative to the fixed portion (70) and radially with respect to the axis of the rotation to lock the stator in a radial direction. The rotor (32) may comprise at least one lock engagement feature (86) arranged at its end surface and an end shield (90) located axially outward and at least partially adjacent the end surface. The end shield (90) comprises at least one opening enabling access to the end surface of the rotor (32). The axial locking mechanism may comprise at least one axial lock (80) comprising a removable block (82) configured to partly cover the at least one opening of the end shield (90) and a rotor engagement tool (84) for engaging the removable block (82) with the at least one lock engagement feature (86).

    Abstract: A generator rotor assembly (42) comprises a cylindrical ring structure (46) defining a central hollow portion and arranged to rotate around a rotational axis. The cylindrical ring structure (46) comprises a plurality of permanent magnet packages (48) arranged coaxially around the rotational axis, the permanent magnet packages (48) comprising a plurality of coaxially stacked ring-shaped segmented layers (80), a plurality of tie rod holes (86) and a plurality of tie rods (54). The coaxially stacked ring-shaped segmented layers (80) comprise a plurality of contiguous segment sheets (82) arranged around the rotational axis to form the ring-shaped layer, the stacked layers (80) being staggered such that segment breaks between two contiguous segment sheets (82) in one of the layers are angularly offset with respect to segment breaks between two contiguous segment sheets (82) in an adjacent layer. The tie rod holes (86) extend axially through the layers of the permanent magnet packages (48), wherein the plurality of tie rod holes (86) of adjacent permanent magnet packages (48) are complementary in size and position, such that a plurality of tie rod bores is defined. The tie rods (54) extend through respective ones of the plurality of tie rod bores.

    Abstract: A generator-gearbox assembly for a wind turbine A generator-gearbox assembly (200) for a wind turbine (100) comprising a generator (240) having a generator rotor (245); a gearbox (220) comprising an output shaft (230); and a connection assembly (300). The connection assembly (300) comprises a hub abutment surface (310), provided at an end (235) of the output shaft (230) and a plurality of shaft bolt holes (315); a hub (320) associated with the generator rotor (245) and comprising a body (325) and a first connecting portion (340) having a shaft abutment surface (345) facing towards the hub abutment surface (310) and at least one elongated slot (360) extending through the first connecting portion (340). The number of elongated slots (360) is less than or equal to the number of shaft bolt holes (315). A plurality of fasteners fixedly connect the hub (320) to the hub abutment surface (310), each fastener extending through a respective elongated slot (360) and a shaft bolt hole (315). Beneficially, the arrangement of the hub component with elongated slots to accommodate fixing fasteners reduces the likelihood of having to manoeuvre a cumbersome drive shaft or generator rotor into an exact position for attachment to each other. Since the slots are elongated, when the drive shaft is arranged to abut the first flange during assembly it is more likely that the shaft bolt holes of the hub abutment surface align with the elongated slots of the first flange, and so it is more likely that a connection can be made between the drive shaft and the rotor.
