    Abstract: According to embodiments described herein managing power storage and discharge from or charge to a battery array that includes a plurality of individual batteries, is provided by: determining an aggregate demand for power from the battery array; performing one of discharging or charging via a first battery of the plurality of individual batteries from a first state of charge to a second state of charge based on a test profile configured to characterize the first battery, wherein the test profile is unrelated to the aggregate demand; and performing the one of discharging or charging via a second battery of the plurality of individual batteries to compensate for a difference between power discharged or charged by the first battery according to the test profile and the aggregate demand.

    Abstract: According to embodiments described herein, adaptive augmentation for load response is provided via monitoring (710) operational characteristics of members of first and second groups of power storage units; monitoring (720) demand characteristics of power demand on the storage array, wherein the first group of power storage units is activated to supply power for a first component of the power demand and the second group of power storage units is activated to supply power for a second component of the power demand; and while the members of the first and second groups of power storage units remain installed and available to respond to the power demand on the storage array: reassigning (740) a given member of the first group to be a new member of the second group in response to at least one of a change in the operational characteristics or a change in the demand characteristics.
