Abstract: In a process for prewarming and melting down metallic feed stock by means of a prewarming and melting installation having at least two electric furnaces 2, 3, the electric furnaces 2, 3 are used alternately for the melting down. To permit the electric furnaces 2, 3 to be used while at the same time minimizing the energy input and achieving short tap-to-tap times, the waste gases discharged from a first electric oven 2, 3 during the melting down of one batch by means of electrical energy in this first electric furnace 2, 3 are used for prewarming the metallic feed stock of the next batch to be charged into this electric furnace 2, 3, the melting down of the feed stock in the first electric furnace 2, 3 being followed by tapping this furnace and then charging prewarmed metallic feed stock of the next batch into this electric furnace 2, 3 and carrying out preheating by supplying energy by means of burners 7 before the beginning of the melting down to be carried out by means of electrical energy, it further being provided that the waste gases produced during preheating are used for the prewarming of metallic feed stock and, between tapping and the end of the preheating at the first electric furnace 2, 3, metallic feed stock which has been prewarmed and preheated in the mean time is in each case melted in the second electric furnace 2, 3.

Abstract: A plant for the production of molten metals includes a melting vessel in whose wall burners and optionally oxygen-containing-gas feeding ducts are installed and on whose upper end a charging device as well as a gas evacuation duct receiving the offgases forming enter. In order to enable the continuous charging of the melting vessel by avoiding any unintentional escape of gas from the melting vessel, both the gas evacuation duct and the charging means run into the upper end of the furnace shaft laterally and approximately diametrically opposite each other. The charging means projects into a charging opening brushed over by a gas curtain and an intake chute for charging material is provided below the charging opening in a manner directed towards the center of the furnace shaft. The intake chute forms a projection protruding inwardly like a nose relative to the wall of the furnace shaft and followed by a wall section inclined relative to the lower end region of the furnace shaft and passing over into the wall of the furnace shaft.

Abstract: A plant for the production of molten metals, includes a melting vessel and a metallurgical vessel receiving the melt from the melting vessel for aftertreating the melt and closed by a lid. The melting vessel has a tap opening for the melt provided on the bottom level of the melting vessel and located on the periphery of the melting vessel. The tap opening is positioned above a pour-in opening of the metallurgical vessel. In order to ensure a continuous melting procedure, the pour-in opening of the metallurgical vessel following the melting vessel is provided above a melt guiding chute arranged within the metallurgical vessel.

Abstract: In order to allow inexpensive disposal of the pollutants being formed during heating and melting in the production of molten steel (4) from scrap (3) contaminated with combustible refuse-like substances, and to keep the waste gases free of polluting impurities, the gas being formed on insertion of the scrap (3) into the metallurgical melting vessel (2) and the gas being formed during heating and melting of the scrap (3) is, after conditioning to a temperature range between 1000 and 1500 DEG C, used as fuel gas with release of its sensible heat in a lime-burning process with a moving fixed lime bed (22), sulphur- and chlorine-containing constituents of the fuel gas being absorbed on the burnt lime and the dust contained in the fuel gas being precipitated in the fixed lime bed (22) and the fuel gas, purified on passing through the fixed lime bed (22) and cooled, being then finally purified in a filter installation (28).

Abstract: The method concerns loading of granular materials, in particular, hot sponge iron into a melting furnace (3), in particular, an electric arc furnace, by delivering it through at least one channel (9) entering into the furnace from above. In the end region (10) of the channel the material (together with its fine constituents) is subjected to a very intense acceleration by injection of a transport gas. The slag cover on the molten metal is pierced by the jet of the accelerated material which thus in its entirety enters into the molten metal. The appts. is characterised by the presence of a transport gas injector (13) located in the end region (10) of the channel (9). The gas injector (13) is oriented in the same direction as the end section of the material delivery channel. A pivotable chute (19) with a cooling system is attached to the end of the delivery channel. The end region (10) of the delivery channel is provided with a cooling system (24) in the form of a water-cooled shield.
