Abstract: A valve 100 comprises a body 110 having a first spring 160 and a sealing member 170 configured to move inside the body 110 against the spring 160 to provide a fluid flow path 114 from an interior 195 to the exterior 155 of the valve body at a predetermined pressure difference. The pressure difference may occur when a pump 150 located above the valve 100 is turned on. If the pump 150 is removed or turned off, the valve 100 returns to the off state, thereby preventing production fluid from flowing into the wellbore. The valve 100 may be provided with a bypass system. In a separate embodiment, the sealing member moves between first 190 and second 185 seats, and is configured to move the second seat 185 against a spring 180 so as to provide the fluid flow path.

Abstract: An improved expansion assembly for an expander tool is provided. The expander tool is used to expand a surrounding tubular body within a wellbore. Accordingly, a method for expanding a surrounding tubular is also provided. The expansion assembly first comprises a piston disposed within a recess of the expander tool. The top surface of the piston closely receives a pad. The pad is held in close proximity to the top surface of the piston such that it does not rotate about a shaft. This arrangement reduces the geometric size of the expansion assembly, affording a larger inner diameter for the hollow bore of the expander tool itself. At least one reinforcement member is disposed on or within the pad to strengthen the pad during an expansion operation. The reinforcement member is fabricated from a durable material, and is arranged along the pad in the area of contact with the surrounding tubular during an expansion operation.

Abstract: The present invention provides an expandable tubular having improved polishe d bore receptacle protection. The present invention further provides methods f or completing a wellbore through the use of an expandable string of casing havi ng improved polished bore receptacle protection. In one aspect, the invention includes a liner member (200) having an expandable section (225), and a polished bore receptacle (25) positioned below the expandable section. The expandable section is run into a wellbore (205), and is positioned to overla p with the bottom portion of a string of casing (210) already set within the wellbore. The expandable section is then expanded into frictional engagement with the surrounding casing. The expandable section optionally includes at least one sealing member (260) and at least one slip member (270) on the out er surface. In one aspect, a transition section (275) is provided between the expandable section and the polished bore receptacle. The transition section defines a sloped inner diameter which provides further protection for the sealing surfaces of the polished bore receptacle as tools, fluid, and tubula rs are transited downhole through the polished bore receptacle.

Abstract: An optical waveguide feedthrough assembly passes at least one optical waveguide through a bulk head, a sensor wall, or other feedthrough member. T he optical waveguide feedthrough assembly comprises a cane-based optical waveguide that forms a glass plug sealingly disposed in a feedthrough housing. A seal fills an annular space between the glass plug and the housing. The seal may be energized by a fluid pressure in the housing to establish sealing engagement. Further, th e seal may provide bidirectional sealing. The feedthrough assembly is operable in high temperature and high pressure environments.
