Abstract: 3150. Westgarth, G. W. Feb. 8. Sash fastenings.-A lever a, Fig. 3, with a balance weight at one end and a slot b at the other, is pivoted in a bracket on the lower sash. The slotted end can pass through one of the apertures P, Fig. 5, in a standard on the upper sash to engage the tapered cross-pieces L, shown in section in Fig. 6, the sashes being secured in a closed position, or in a partially open one for ventilation. The face R of the slot assumes a vertical position when the parts are in engagement. When the weighted end is in the turned-over or disengaged position, the act of closing the sashes knocks it back, causing them to be automatically fastened.
