Abstract: The frame is made by first rolling fibres of material in filaments in spirals on a long chuck (17). This forms a tube (34) with enough turns to make a layered structure and the turns are made in an arbitrary sequence. The tube is then removed from the chuck. The tube is positioned in a mould, with the shape of the frame, to mould the tube into shape. The inner layer of the tube is rolled in a normal spiral and the outer layers are formed by a mixed rolling.

The tube is formed from a wound laminate in which some or all of the circuits of the wind patterns are sequenced in an arbitrary manner by the designer. Each circuit is helically wound along a rotating mandrel. The formed tube is placed in a mold having the shape of the frame, auxiliary pieces for handle and yoke sections are added, and together molded to form the frame.

Abstract: The frame is made by first preparing fibres (34) of reinforcing material (35) with a matrix in thermoplastic material. The fibres are then rolled in spirals on a long chuck, to form a tube. The tube is removed from the tube and placed in a mould which has the shape of the frame. The mould is heated to a temperature at which the material of the tube fuses. The interior of the mould is also put under pressure. The mould is cooled and the frame is removed from it.

Abstract: The procedure, used to make racquets for tennis, squash and other ball games, consists of winding a layer of filament round an elongated mandrel to make a tube, removing the tube from the mandrel and placing it in the chamber (38) of a moulding the shape of the racquet frame. The tube is then put under pressure to force it against the surface of the mould cavity, which is then injected with resin to form a rigid frame on hardening. During the resin injection process the mould chamber is subjected to a suction force to evacuate air and draw the resin through the tube and the mould chamber. The filament material used to wind the tube is pref. of graphite, which can be combined with glass, aramide, boron or polymer fibres, and the resin can be injected into the mould at either end, being evacuated at the other end.
