Abstract: An electrophotographic printing machine of the type in which an electrostatic latent image recorded on a charge retentive surface is developed with toner particles to form a visible image thereof. A Hybrid Scavengeless Development (HSD) developer housing designed to control toner emission by employing two internal capture[JMC16], external exhaust manifolds. The location of the two manifolds are placed above and below the upper and lower donor rolls respectively. The manifolds are mounted in position to improve emissions control as well as reductions in the flow needed to accomplish the task. The upper and lower manifolds are able to control the loose toner emitted by the housing and lower powder cloud, they cannot collect the toner released by the upper powder cloud. To prevent toner accumulation in the middle regions of the wire module, a manifold is incorporated as an integral part of the wire module frame. Finally, toner released in the region between the two donor rolls near the magnetic roll surface may be controlled by inserting a baffle.

Abstract: An air suction manifold device removes fibers/debris (160) from the photoreceptor surface (10), which may otherwise attach to the development electrode wires causing print defect. The device incorporates a secondary channel (102) parallel to a main channel (104), formed by a manifold flange proximate to the photoreceptor surface (10). The secondary channel (102) supplies a specific volume of air at a specific mean velocity in a direction perpendicular to the flow direction across the surface (10) caused by the main channel (104). The volume and velocity of secondary channel air being of such magnitude that it crosses the main channel airflow and impinges on the photoreceptor surface (10), causing a zone of maximum shear stress prior to completely mixing with the main channel airflow. The maximum sheer stress zone resulting in improved fiber/debris removal performance from the photoreceptor surface (10).

Abstract: A printer includes a web transport that is configured to transport a web 218 of media along a transport path through the printer. Printheads 206A-206D in the printer are associated with web detectors 208A-208D that detect the presence or absence of the web opposite the printheads. A controller in the printer is operatively connected to the web detectors to alter operation of the printer with reference to the presence or absence of the web opposite the printheads. In order to minimize inadvertent ink jetting operation of a printhead is stopped if a respective web detector detects absence of the web proximate to the printhead.
