Abstract: An optical disk recorder in which the optical disk, the drive spindle and the disk drive motor are moved or pivoted in an arcuate path relative to stationary laser optics. When moved in such an arcuate path, the optical disk, spindle and drive motor have a lessened movement of inertia (compared to linear movement thereof) which permits relatively fast accessing of an optical disk without a large drive motor. The accessing system can be naturally statically balanced by placing the spindle and the drive motor or opposite sides of the pivot point.

Abstract: An optical data recording system in which during recording the writing beam is made to move at the same velocity as the recording medium whereby motion blur is minimized or reduced. Movement of the writing beam at the same velocity as the recording medium is achieved by supplying a constantly varying frequency RF signal to an acousto-optic device which deflects (diffracts) the writing beam in accordance with the instantaneous frequency of the RF signal. The acousto-optic device can also be utilized to amplitude modulate the writing beam.

Abstract: An optical recording member is prepared by coating a thin layer of a colloidal dispersion, of minute particles of certain transition metals or their oxides in a polymeric binder, onto a substrate. The optical recording member may be made to achieve anti-reflecting conditions at the marking wavelength by making the substrate reflective and by using proper thickness for the dispersion layer.
