    Abstract: Apparatus, methods and articles of manufacture consistent with the present invention, provide a registration scheme wherein a first set of information on a substrate having embedded data embodied thereon is registered with a second set of information, based on the embedded data. In accordance with this registration scheme, an image capture device (470) captures an image that includes embedded code and causes a display to be created that includes a combination of the captured image and information that augments the image with additional information. The additional information is registered with the captured image in the combined display.

    Abstract: A user interface is implemented using visual indicia and a background for the visual indicia that encodes address information. The background appears visually as a stipple pattern, but is implemented using glyphs which form and address carpet that encodes address information uniquely identifying each area of the user interface. An image capture device is used to select an area of the address carpet that is under or near visual indicia of interest to the user. The image capture device captures the area of interest, and transmits the image area to a computer for processing. The computer first determines the proper orientation of the image, and then decodes the information encoded by the glyphs. The decoding results in an X, Y address identifying the location of the selected area in the address carpet. Based on the address, the computer may perform an operation associated with the area.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user interface for a data processing system. SOLUTION: A tiled code system comprises tiles, tiled code regions and occlusion regions. Occlusions comprise user interface graphics for user selection and information. The occlusion regions occur periodically in each tile. A user uses a selection device to capture an image of a portion of a substrate that includes portions of tiled codes to complete a tile. The image is analyzed to determine the tile code pattern. A context code is determined from the tiled code pattern, and a selection code is determined from the occlusion information in the image. The context code and selection code are then processed by a syntax processor. Based on a selection or series of selections by a user, the syntax processor sends commands to the system.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate robust decoding of machine readable codes such as glyphs if an area on a board is occluded. SOLUTION: Embedded data codes include periodic tiles with occlusions. In one embodiment, each tile includes a glyph which encodes a first encoded system. The occlusions, for example, include information such as glyphs, graphics, or texts for encoding a second encoded system. The occlusions can be generated periodically within each tile. To capture images of the portion of the board including the tiles, a reader is used. Thereafter, a processor analyzes the images, thereby determining a tile code pattern, and decoding the tile codes.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently identify the original spatial position of each glyph by reading a sensitive indication embedded in a medium and the part of two-dimensional data address code and translating them to individual pointers. SOLUTION: A user arranges a camera pen 1710 on a visual mark or near that mark on a glyph address carpet 1732 as a graphical interface and performs selection by pressing a button 1715. By pressing the button 1715, the camera pen 1710 captures the part of the address carpet 1732 under that top end and transmits an image through a frame capture 1728 to a computer 1712 for analysis. At the computer 1712, a processor 1722 executes a program, analyzes the captured part of the glyph address carpet 1732, determines the direction of the image in order to decode and interpret address information encoded into glyph and decodes the address at the position selected on the address carpet.
