Abstract: Improved cascade apparatus for developing electrostatic images wherein a latent electrostatic image supported on a moving member is developed by cascading a flow of developer material including a magnetic component and an electroscopic component through a development zone. A chute receives a sufficient quantity of the developer material from a conveyor which moves the developer material in buckets from a sump and unloads a developer material at the inlet side of the chute. A magnetic member is positioned at the inlet side of the chute in close proximity to the path of the conveyor to affect the buildup of the magnetic developer material in the path of the conveyor buckets such that a sufficient quantity of the developer material is directed along the chute into the development zone instead of a certain portion being returneed into the sump as the buckets are inverted by their movement to dump the conveyed developer at the inlet of the chute leading into the development zone.

Abstract: Improved cascade apparatus for developing electrostatic images wherein a latent electrostatic image supported on a moving member is developed by cascading a flow of developer material including a magnetic carrier component and an electroscopic toner component through a development zone. A toner dispenser dispenses toner material to supplement that portion consumed during development. The dispensed toner material is received onto a chute which directs the toner material into a predetermined location in the sump of the developer housing. A bucket conveyor moves developer material upwardly in the housing and spillage from the buckets is directed along the chute to combine with the dispensed toner material and also to prevent the dispensed toner material from clinging on the chute. A magnetic field producing member is positioned on the chute adjacent the path of the bucket conveyor to control the direction of flow of the spillage and to pull excess developer material from the buckets.

Abstract: A conveyor assembly for xerographic reproducing machines. The conveyor assembly includes a plurality of elongated buckets mounted at their opposite ends to endless belts. The belts are each mounted on upper and lower pulleys mounted on shafts. The lowermost shaft is an idler while the uppermost shaft is power driven to move the buckets in a continuous path of movement from a developer sump portion whereat two-component developer is picked up by the buckets to above the upper pulleys. There the buckets are inverted by their movement to dump the conveyed developer to an input chute leading to the upper end of a cascade development zone. A closed cell polyurethane foam roller of a diameter substantially equal to that of the upper pulleys is mounted therebetween for rotation therewith whereby developer being spilled by the buckets may be directed to the input chute.
