Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus for converting the resolution of an input image to a higher resolution that is a noninteger multiple of the input resolution. The invention employs either an interlocked or noninterlocked clustering arrangement of output pixels in order to assign to each output pixel a reference value determined from the signal levels of the input image. More particularly, a first set of templates (136a-f; Fig.3) in a first LUT (32) are used for a first iteration in first filter circuit 30; and a second set of templates (138; Fig.3) in a second LUT (42) are used for a second iteration in a second filter circuit (40). XOR circuits (46), (50) are used to produce output images (48), (50) with text-only and image-only, respectively.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the allowable quality of an edge by identifying an area where an alias is removed, attaching a tag and performing appropriate rendering corresponding to the area. SOLUTION: Input continuous tone/digital image data are judged as the ones for which the alias is removed in the case that a target pixel is at a fixed reference value by a block, a prescribed tag is supplied to a rendering block, a processing is controlled and it is used as the select signal of a multiplexer. Further, it is combined with another tag for indicating the pixel type of a line and a text, etc., in an operation block, accurate rendering information is generated and supplied to the block and rendering for which the alias is removed is instructed. At the time, the information of the tag, pixel value information and marking process characteristics are used to select rendering signals. The output of the block is supplied to the multiplexer together with the output of a half toning block and one is selectively outputted.
