    Abstract: Apparatus for monitoring the density of electroscopic toner powder images wherein an electrically conductive light transmissive probe is utilized as a xerographic photoreceptor simulator for cyclically developing and cleaning a toner powder image on the probe surface. The density of the electroscopic toner image on the probe surface is sensed at a predetermined time by passing a light beam from a lamp through the probe and developer material into a photosensor. The photosensor and light source are supported in a protective sealed housing to eliminate contamination of these components by the ambient conditions of the xerographic developing apparatus. The photosensor is coupled to a threshold or level detector to generate a control signal when the density of the image developed on the probe surface is less than a predetermined amount.

    Abstract: A layer transfer imaging system for generating hard copy output from optical input. The unit generates images on paper, plastic coated paper, metal foils, metal paper and metal plastic laminates utilizing a layer transfer imaging system comprising a cohesively weak imaging layer sandwiched between a donor sheet and a receiver sheet. Separation of the donor and receiver sheets provides a negative image on one of the sheets and a positive image on the other. Inputs may be from a cathode ray tube, document light reflection, or any other suitable optical scan transfer system.

    Abstract: Vapor fusing apparatus comprising a substantially enclosed chamber having ingress and egress openings associated therewith. A solvent soluble powder image, formed on a support member, is delivered to the chamber through the ingress opening, the image being fused to the support member by solvent vapor generated in the chamber. The support member, after the image is fused thereto, exits from the chamber through the egress opening. The ingress and egress openings of the chamber are located above the level of maximum concentration of the solvent vapor generated in the chamber to minimize vapor loss to the atmosphere. The support member is under continuous and positive control during the fusing operation.
