Abstract: A roll fusing apparatus for electrostatic reproducing apparatus wherein the heated roll has a resilient surface including a plurality of discrete protrusions or ridges which extend from the surface thereof. The protrusions are so constructed that they compress when they pass through the nip area formed between the heated roller and the back-up roller. Once they move out of the nip the protrusions assume the normally uncompressed state and thereby serve to lift the copy paper from the heated fuser roll.

Abstract: USE OF SILICONE OIL AS A POLYETHYLENE OXIDATION RETARDANT IN A TONER IMAGE FUSING APPARATUS A contact fuser assembly for use in an electrostatic reproducing apparatus including an internally heated fuser roll structure comprising a rigid or non-deformable, thermally conductive core capable of interacting with a material applied thereto in such a manner as to form a thermally-stable interfacial coating intermediate the surface of the core and a release coating also formed thereon. The interfacial coating strongly adheres to the core surface and prevents toner material from contacting the outer surface of the core. The combined coatings have a sub-micron thickness and therefore present a minimal thermal barrier to the energy being conducted outwardly by the core. The fuser assembly is characterized by the provision of means for controlling the interaction between the core and the material.

Abstract: A nip forming fuser roll (NFFR) is disclosed which dies not exhibit the phenomena of droop which can occur when the fuser switches from a standby to a run mode of operation. The elimination of droop is effected using an external heat source (60) which together with an internal source of heat (28) supplies heat to the surface (30) of the heated fuser member (12) to maintain its surface temperature at a preset standby value until such time as the fuser roll core (26) reaches a temperature level sufficient to maintain the heated fuser member (12) surface at a substantially constant temperature during standby and run modes of operation.
