Abstract: In color printing with a color registration system for the registration of plural color images on an image bearing surface, such as a photoreceptor belt (12) of a color printer, registration marks (32) are imaged on the image bearing surface, which registration marks correspond to the color images and are sensed by a registration marks sensor (22). The system first automatically images first registration marks (32), preferably "Z" targets, which provide wider initial mis-registration latitude for the sensor (22) for gross registration. When an initial registration is achieved, the system automatically switches to imaging second registration marks (36), preferably chevron targets, providing higher registration accuracy for the sensor (22). These registration targets may be generated along opposite sides of the image area on opposite sides of the photoreceptor (12) or other belt.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a registration system which accurately registers a color image on an image supporting member of a color printer to another color image. SOLUTION: In color printing using a color registration system for registering a plurality of color images on a photoreceptor belt 12 of the color printer 10, a register mark is image-formed on an image supporting surface. The register mark corresponds to the color image and is detected by register mark sensors 20A, 20B. In an initial general registration mode, a first register mark of an extended angular target 36 shape is automatically image-formed at first. Even when initial general misregistration is present, the extended angular target 36 is largely extended in a processing direction in order to avoid overlapping of the marks. A second register mark (a standard angular target 34 or the like) by which higher registration accuracy can be obtained when allowable initial registration is attained and which is arranged at a narrower space and has denser distribution, is image-formed. The registration targets 34, 36 can be generated along both sides of an image region 30 in the processing direction.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To predict the analytical model of a dynamically fluctuating color reproducing device online. SOLUTION: A method and a device which predict the analytical model of the dynamically fluctuating color reproducing device online, repeatedly perform parameter adjustment algorithm and update a parameter until the analytical model is obtained. Parameter adjustment is calculated on the basis of a signal detected from an actual device output by a sensor itself and a measured error signal from an analytical model output. The convergence of parameters offers minimum error measurement, and the adjustment algorithm is repeatedly carried out until the updated parameter is discriminated as correct in a selected parametric model.
