Abstract: Disclosed is an ink composition which comprises an aqueous liquid vehicle, a water-soluble dye, and particles of a block copolymer of the formula ABA, wherein A represents a hydrophilic segment and B represents a hydrophobic segment, said ABA particles having an average diameter of about 300 Angstroms or less. The ink is particularly suitable for use in ink jet printing systems, especially thermal ink jet printing systems.

Abstract: In ink-jet printing, the ink consists of: (1) an emulsion of an organic phase (I) in an aq. phase (II), (I) contg. oil(s) and/or wax(es); (2) a suspension of wax particles (III) in (II); (3) (I), contg. wax with a m.pt. of 40-150 deg.C and an oil-soluble dyestuff, and (II); (4) (II) and (I) contg. oil and a colorant (IV); (5) (II) and (I) contg. an oil-soluble resin (V) and oil; (6) (III), water and colourant (IV); or (7) (II) and (I) contg. a liquid wax and (IV). The claims also cover an ink of type (1), in which over 75% of (II) is water; and inks which are emulsions of (I) in (II), in which (I) contains (a) a polyhalogenated polyolefin resin and an oil, (b) a liquid wax free from oil or (c) an oil free from wax and polymer. Ink (I) also contains (IV) in (I) and/or (II); and suitable (I) contain : (a) liquid wax, which may contain a pigment and/or dyestuff or be uncoloured; (b) an oil and an oil-soluble wax, pref. with a m.pt. under 150 deg.C, esp. under 100 deg.C, partic. 40-100 deg.C; (c) an oil and (V), pref. a chlorinated polyolefin; (d) oil with a viscosity of ca. 2-150 cP at 40 deg.C; (e) (III) contg. pigment and/or dyestuff, with a m.pt. of 40-150 deg.C; (f) oil contg. oil-soluble dyestuff(s) and/or pigment(s) and opt. (V); (g) liquid wax, an oil-soluble dyestuff and opt. an oil; (b) wax free from oil; or (i) oil free from wax.
