Abstract: A development system is provided wherein a movable developer loaded applicator surface is first doctored on the edges and corners of the surface to remove excess developer and prevent the accumulation of developer on the corners and is finally doctored with another doctoring surface along the entire applicator surface to provide a uniform distribution of developer on the surface which doctored applicator surface is brought into developing engagement with an image to be developed. Dry and liquid development techniques can be employed and the doctoring surfaces may be provided by doctor blades or rollers.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided which limits the amount of developer that is presented to an electrostatic latent image to a width corresponding to the length of copy paper used. This particular apparatus and method apply to a development system which has a developer sump communicated to a magnetic transport means through a developer outlet at the lower end of the sump. During development functions, magnetic developer flows from the sump through the outlet to the magnetic transport means to be presented to the latent image. A plurality of magnetic gates are provided, each of which may be swung into closed position adjacent the outlet to magnetically block flow of developer through that portion of the outlet corresponding to the length of the magnetic gate adjacent thereto. Each magnetic gate may also be swung into an open position which allows developer to flow through the outlet corresponding to the length of the magnetic gate adjacent thereto. Certain of the magnetic gates may be selectively located in open or closed position to allow developer to flow through the outlet over a length corresponding to the length of a copy sheet being utilized. All of the gates may be located in closed position when it is desired to stop all of developer flow through the outlet to purge the developer system. A particular shaft construction is provided to allow selective relative movement of the gates.

Abstract: A developer sump is communicated to a magnetic transport means through a developer outlet at the lower end of the sump. During development function, magnetic developer flows from the sump through the outlet to the magnetic transport means. A magnetic gate is normally located away from the outlet during the development function and is arranged to be swung into a position adjacent to the opening to magnetically stop the flow of developer through the outlet when it is desired to purge the development system.

Abstract: Apparatus for separating a copy sheet, supporting a toner image, from a rotating xerographic drum structure wherein the bond between the sheet and the drum is principally electrostatic. Abstract: A multicolor imaging device is described, which is capable of operating at higher than normal speeds when a full range of colors is not required. The imaging device includes four station groups (2100,2200,2300,2400) each having a charge scorotron (2110,2210,2310,2410), a light source (2120,2220,2320,2420) for exposing a photoconductive belt (1510) to a color signal, and a toner developer (2130,2230,2330,2430). When a color of a particular station is not required, the light source for that station is disabled and the charge scorotron of that station is enabled to allow a higher charging rate for the required colors, thereby allowing the belt to be propelled at a higher speed.

Abstract: Signature printing with an automatic duplexing copier (10) by simultaneously presenting plural document sheets (F1, F2, etc.) to the imaging station (23) of the copier in a predetermined nonserial page order for producing a set of signature copy sheets (S1, S2, etc.) suitable for subsequent center-folding into signature sets. A normal serial set of document sheets is loaded into an automatic document re-ordering and presenting system (20) (associated with the copier) which automatically reorders that set of document sheets into a predetermined nonserial reordered page order for signature pair page order "two-up" copying. The pairs of automatically reordered document sheets are preserted automatically to the imaging station of the copier to be copied in the reordered page order to provide collated page order signature sets automatically with the copier for on-line center-folding and finishing without requiring any manual reordering of either the document sheets or the signature copy sheets. The automatic re-ordering includes automatic 180 DEG rotation of alternate pairs of simplex document sheets to provide proper orientation of the document pages for the automatic duplex copier. The document sheets are either automatically separated into two stacks for two document sheets to be presented simultaneously lengthwise (short-edge-first) in parallel to one side of the imaging station (see Fig. 3a), or reordered into one stack for sideways (long-edge-first) presentation from an orthogonal direction (see Fig. 3b).
